Remapping Keyboard - Which Keyboard? [SOLVED]

Post by Sky Aisling »

Good Day Puppers

Machine:
Computer Vendor LENOVO
Product Name 80XK
Version Lenovo ideapad 320-14IKB
Serial Number PF0TE6PD
RAM 3808472

Operating System:
Distro Name fossapup64 9.6 (x86_64) frugal installed on flash drive.
Window Manager JWM v2.4.3

The goal is to determine what keyboard is on this machine in order to remap the board to match key symbols.

Many of the keys show a different character than what is shown on the keyboard keys.
For example:
The @ sign requires hitting the "shift" plus "2" keys.
The " sign requires hitting the "shift" plus "@" keys.

Using PupControl I have found XKB configuration manager and Select XkbModel.

But, what keyboard do I choose to modify?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can offer.
(Moderators please move this to a more appropriate area if you feel this is out-of-place.)

Using PupControl I have found XKB configuration manager and Select XkbModel.

This is what you get when you choose "Advanced configuration".Forget it. You don't need to modify anything.
Instead choose "Layout for your country", and here try the "gb English (UK)" keyboard. This should activate the ISO Standard Layout as pictured in your posted keyboard photo.

Perfect! @MochiMoppel
Thank you!
The app auto ticked the UTF-8 encoding box. Is this ok?

Yes.

Click on the specific information button, far right, to get info on this option.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o
