I have to agree with Erik on this one.

When I upgraded the CPU on the old Compaq rig to a dual-core variant, the BIOS needed re-flashing to support the 'new' CPU. With the support of Keisha, who had spent a few summers during his mis-spent youth working in a computer repair shop, and who had had quite a bit of experience performing this tricky operation, we got everything working over the course of about 36 hours.....time-zone differences notwithstanding.

The Arch Linux wiki came to the rescue, explaining all the ins & outs of using the flashrom utility.....including possible pitfalls, and things to be aware of. It really is a brilliant resource. You just need the patience to navigate through it all.....there's a LOT of stuff there!
