Hello @mistfire Hope your holidays are great.

On a pristine boot, the system's root show 2 files I am unfamiliar with; namely "sd_mod & sr_mod". What are these files. In the past, I have also seen sc_mod.

Are they crucial in either booting, system operations, or some subsystem use?

I have noticed how this system boots differently than most of the WoofCE PUPs depending on tool(s) used for ISO file boot launch.

System runs very well. Thanks for your good work.

I have no idea why those files produced at root level directory. I might be needed on other purpose.
QuickPup64 system boot was fully customized with tweaks.

Hi @mistfire. Got the message when accessing.

I responded and am looking forward to a share in my email when you approve.

Will test v20 when I get the share link in my Google Drive.
BTW: Would sharing that folder of your ISOs be a better option to reduce effort?

Activate Intel wifi card.

Posted: Sat Jan 08, 2022 6:14 pm
by Anacleto

First many thanks to mistfire for its distribution I like it and it is the first distro puppy
that works well for me bluetooth.

I have problems with the wifi card Intel Corporation Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168NGW [Stone Peak] (rev 10)

I tried several things to recognize my wifi card in: Quickpub64_v22.01 but I did not get it,
so I found a way to activate it that might help someone who is looking for how to do it.

1) Download the firmware from:

http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/no ... -3_all.deb

2) Create directory

mkdir /tmp/temp123

3) In the same directory are firmware-iwlwifi_20210315-3_all.deb open terminal and write:

dpkg-deb -x firmware-iwlwifi_20210315-3_all.deb /tmp/temp123

4) Inside of /tmp/temp123 there are two directories. /lib and /usr

go to /lib/firmware and with Thunar copy all inside in to the directorio of hardrive.

/lib/firmware

Overwrite everything and also the /intel directory

5) Another thing I did was add the modules inside > BootManager > "Add new module"

mac80211, iwlmvm and iwldvm

Restart the computer again, only then we can not connect to the internet using frisbee but usually it is
difficult and when we restart the computer again my configuration is not saved and I have to try again
connect by frisbee.

So as I like to connect more through Network-Wizard I did the following.

1) download the file:
network assistant.tar.gz

network-wizard.tar.gz
(42.26 KiB) Downloaded 115 times

2) extract it and get the directory :
network wizard

3) Save the hard drive directory, where we want :
/usr/local/network-wizard

4) In the unzipped directory we find the net-setup.sh file we have to replace it with the file of the same name within a directory /usr/local/bin .

5) The rest of the three remaining files will copy them replacing the originals within originals within the directory network-wizard :

/usr/local/network-wizard

Restart your computer and go to Menu > Setup > Internet Connection Wizard

Choose Network Wizard and then you can configure your wifi

For me it worked and save the configuration when I restart the computer and connected directly to the internet.

Possibly there are several more elegant methods to do it but this is the only one that has worked
for me so far, I hope it can be useful for someone else. Greeting.

May I know the name and model of your computer? What are the system specs?

Just download JWM and ROX-Filer then install it. Go to Menu>Shutdown then choose CHANGE DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT.
Select JWM then click OK

I'm interested in using this in how it packages a lot of useful features together but...

I can't setup a wireless router connection. Connecting either expects a ton of details that the average user wouldn't know (forgive me, I'm a beginner), or the available networks come up completely blank. I didn't have this problem connecting with fossapup.

When the live system starts for the first time, it acts weird. I was stuck with only one option in connection setup wizard, and it took a restart to give me all the options on the initial screen.

Hi Treya I think you're asked me.
If so, the problem you have is with WiFi Intel card?

You say :

I can't setup a wireless router connection.

Can you specify more what is the problem?

Can you say more exactly what you did?

Greetings.

install intel firmware driver then reboot. Or use FossaPup64 fdrv module by renaming it as fdrv_quickpup64_22.01.sfs and replace the existing one then boot the QuickPup

QuickPup uses NetworkManager by default. Just click Network Tray to detect wifi connection.

Hmm, sounds like it might fix the issue but I hope later on it'll support wireless easily out of the box.

Question is, how do I transfer the downloaded drivers considering quickpup is already put on a separate USB?

I presume I need to merge the ISOs but I've never done that before...

Choose the 2nd option. Get the fdrv file of FossaPup64 or download the firmware driver pack that I provided (download link is on the first post of this thread) and rename it as fdrv_quickpup64_22.01.sfs and replace the stock one on your bootable usb.

If you want to merge it on ISO file, Open QuickPup64 iso file with ISOmaster (already built-in). Delete the stock fdrv file and add the renamed fdrv file. Then click SAVE AS to create new bootable iso image

XFCE THEME QuickPup64

Posted: Thu Jan 20, 2022 1:02 pm
by Anacleto

Hi everybody.

I do not like the white window that damage my eyes, so look for the way the way you change the theme to another darker.

In menu

Applications > Desktop > Appearance the window open only show : Redmond-Delta-10

Inside the directory : /usr/share/themes

There are several themes but it does not recognize them, so try to lower me others from the Internet.

But neither did it work, so I decided to make me one from Redmond-Delta-10.

Call him "black_theme"

I do not like everything because some buttons do not look good the letters but try to improve it.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/ru2iilil ... ar.gz/file

If someone interests you the only thing you have to do is download it to extract the directory and copy it inside:

/usr/share/themes

And choose it in : Applications > Desktop > Appearance the window open only show : "black_theme"

Maybe it's useful to someone.

Greetings

I usually use a keyboard and wireless mouse for a laptop that I have, but since the 64 bits, the mouse and the text writing becomes crazy after a little time.

I think it is because of being working two devices at once as it is the tab-mouse and the wireless mouse.

For this reason since I use in fossa and other 64-bit Puppy distributions run this script at the beginning of the system.

#!/bin/sh
modprobe -r psmouse

This cancels the tab-mouse and lets only run the Wireless Mouse, and in this way there are no problems.

In fossa64 and other puppies distributions I know where the directory script is running at the beginning of the system, but in Quicpub64 I still have not found it.

Does anyone know where is the directory where the script is running at the start of the system?

Thanks. Greetings.

Hi mistfire.

Everything works well until I have investigated as in the previous ones, the only no work well is the connect to the Internet, the windows of Connection-Wizard do not work well.

As in the other QuickPup64-beta I did download the file:

https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/downlo ... hp?id=7461

Extract the directory: "network-wizard" and replace it by the directory: /usr/local/network-wizard

Restar X Windows. Then it is when the windows begin to work.

See you.
