Ok Thanks @dimkr . I was just curious.
Could you pin Vanilla Dpup 9.3.x Links and Changelog to the top of the page please?

@d-pupp I don't see that option to bump or bookmark the topic. Maybe @rockedge knows a way to do this.

@d-pupp This is a bug (https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/w ... ssues/2665) and help debugging it is welcome.

EDIT: https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/woof-CE/pull/3955 should fix this, will be in 9.3.11

pulseaudio-equalizer install?

Posted: Fri Mar 10, 2023 5:06 pm

I am running VP-9.3.11 iso on frugal install and working well. I need an equalizer to start my configuration to dampen down high freq on my setup. In F96-CE_2.iso build this is easily done by p*-equalizer but I would like to have the same functionality with VanillaDpup.
I installed p*-equalizer using synaptic but I get an error as shown. (terminal command to start P-equalizer is qpaeq)

root@main ~
--> qpaeq
There was an error connecting to pulseaudio, please make sure you have the pulseaudio dbus module loaded, exiting...
root@main ~
-->

any suggestions will be appreciated.

@gychang Add load-module module-dbus-protocol to /etc/pulse/default.pa, restart X, then run-as-spot qpaeq

thanks, @dimkr , got it launched with run-as-spot qpaeq, but after adjusting p*-eqaulizer as shown and reboot, the actual sound from youtube and deadbeef have no effect, i.e. the equalizer setting does not get applied.... I may have to start another thread...

@gychang Try to add load-module module-equalizer-sink to /etc/pulse/default.pa and select the right output device in pavucontrol

@gychang Haven't tried a puppy with pulseaudio yet, so not sure if the same applies, but assuming it works like pequalizer for the traditional alsa-based puppies: if you are running an equalizer as spot, you would also need to run the application generating the sound stream as spot (ie, the browser, deadbeef, etc) for the equalizer to do something to the stream

@bigpuppyfan and @Dimaspaf14 thanks for your inputs, gave up not sure if can be done in V9.3...

Nope, this is incorrect. root and spot are configured to use the same PulseAudio instance, the one running as spot. For example, if you change the volume in pavucontrol running as either root or spot, this change affects audio playing applications running as either user.

Oh right, good to know for the future, thanks for the info. With alsa, on bionicpup64 and fossapup64, the above applies.

It seems that the numlockx file is missing in /usr/bin and also in the /root/Startup folder.

AFAIK, numlockx needs to be installed. Either using synaptic or using apt in terminal.

'Firefox is no longer maximized by default'

What's the reason for this ?

@Tahrbaby Multiple users complained about this in F96 threads. (Personally, I always use my browser maximized, and believe most users maximize their browser too.)

Same here!
Seems unprofessional to me starting in 'minimized mode'. :roll:

Right now it's 2-0: your vote and my vote. Let's be democratic and agree that if I get a third vote against this change and less than two votes that support this change, I'll revert it.

I personally like the browser to launch in 2/3 the screen size. And since I tend to open several apps alongside it in rapid succession I like them in a tiled position to begin the session.

I find when the browser launches fully maximized I click to minimize it right way to get my bearings. I could live with on start open in a max mode if need be.

I vote for minimized.

I was one complaining so will vote for not-maximized.

The best idea is to retain the window size when it was last closed. That way if you close the browser maximized (or half sized) it will re-open maximized (or half sized). Even the hated Microsoft OS does it this way.

OK then, it's a sad day for the maximizers camp :?

No, it's a win-win game. See: viewtopic.php?t=8161 If you put the lines from Overdrive5's post in jwmrc-personal with "centered" replacing "maximized" as he suggested, the browser will retain its last size.

If some users don't want something to maximize their browser by default, I prefer to let this window behave like any other, a more neutral stance compared to making this the only application that remembers its window size.

I'll vote maximized. I like Firefox to be full screen when it starts
I also save the code so I can change it at will ;)

We might be the minority vote in this thread which I can accept but do we see this change for example in Mint flavours and other major Linux Distros?
Totally pointless and irritating implementation and especially for most new users of Puppy.And yet for the experts it would be an easy change to make,from what was default maximised,should you so wish.

I understand Linux can be very frustrating until you figure it out. However the community it usually very helpful
To get firefox to open maximized this code should work (it does in 9.3.13)

Code: Select all

<!-- Start Firefox maximized, to save vertical space -->
<Group>
    <Name>Navigator</Name>
    <Name>Firefox</Name>
    <Option>maximized</Option>
</Group>

You need to edit your /root/.jwm/.jwmrc-personal
line 38 under other <Group> tag for my setup

When names start with a . as in .jwm it means they are hidden. To see them click on the 'eye' in Rox filer menu bar . It will say All in the title bar
Hope this helps

I upgraded from 9.3.7 to 9.3.15. Seems to be working pretty well, but when I tried to run firefox I get an error message.

Error: Platform version '102.9.0' is not compatible with
minVersion >= 102.7.0
maxVersion <= 102.7.0

I thought maybe it was a problem with 9.3.15..... so I rebooting using pfix=ram. However, it then ran perfectly.

So that means that it has something to do with the upgrade..... must be something in the save-file that doesn't play nice with it.

Maybe going from 9.3.7 to 9.3.15 is too big a jump?

@dimkr Are you considering KSMBD inclusion for any of your future WoofCE distros?
