Re: Kennel Linux Distrowatch presence

Post by rockedge »

The reason I have not put KLV-Airedale on the Distrowatch list is the added paperwork needed to apply.

no other reason other than I just don't feel like putting in the effort to make the lists and websites that those guys at Distrowatch want. I don't really care about Distrowatch and I never personally think of looking at that site. I'm a terrible businessman.

Everyone wants more paperwork more pinpoint accuracy and in this case I do it all for free and have no gain other I feel good when someone finds the stuff useful.....

So if someone puts the paperwork together I'll submit it.....until then .........when I feel like it,...which isn't right now.

In fact, a few years ago now, I wanted to remove FirstRib related work elsewhere, but was asked to please leave it here. I accepted moving the majority of FR threads into an off topic other distros archive (free to delete at forum admin discretion) and said I was fine with any forum member using FR build system components if they so wish. Rather the opposite of me demanding any FR space.

Of course it is only fair to communicate when space is no longer required and not wanted, for whatever reason, and even better to provide new download and other information location links.

That was me asking to leave the stuff.

Space not needed eh? So now just because this conversation got under my skin.......I am increasing the not needed space significantly.

I wanted to remove FirstRib related work elsewhere

My previous question remains valid......where is this elsewhere right now? I want to see it.

Who said there is yet an 'elsewhere' or that I need or want one? I presume you are asking where some current elsewhere forum is used for those who wish to discuss FR. If there is such a place I don't myself know about or care if there is or not.

Maybe I'll decide such a FR-only discussion place becomes an important part of one of my domains and I'll decide to make some FRDF named whatever. I certainly do (for the past few years) feel that a PLDF is by its title a forum about a distro called Puppy Linux so on the whole it is logically not a great place to in any way market other distros since the forum name and to be expected topics are intended primarily for attracting people interested in Puppy Linux.

Certainly, a few may notice, with perhaps confusion, some of the other distros but more often ignore them since that is not why they came to a forum named PLDF. Space allocated is admittedly not going to solve that. Of course Puppy and/or KL can use FR if that is so decided here, but that doesn't mean there won't be a separate distro called FirstRib or web sites of my own related to that purpose.

Finally getting round to building a solid FR website, and avoiding the Puppy Linux nonsense continues to appeal to me, but a forum, per se, I don't really care about. There are alternative mechanisms should I want to discuss development-related requests or possibilities, and if there were a lot of users and thus interest it might then be worthwhile to give them some kind of FR-only forum. But inside PLDF facing continuous insult and complaint, no thanks.

I'm at a loss for words. I thought I was being helpful and enthusiastic. You must enjoy pissing me off.

As of right now the following is planned

FirstRib web site on rockedge.org renamed to Kennel-Linux on rockedge.org will be abandoned
All further development of those web site forums are now officially abandoned.

Who said there is yet an 'elsewhere' or that I need or want one? I presume you are asking where some current elsewhere forum is used for those who wish to discuss FR. If there is such a place I don't myself know about or care if there is or not.

Fine.

I have not been on Distrowatch for a very long time. It used to be a great place to find a CD based "live Linux" that could boot via CD drive.
Obviously this is largely an irrelevant perspective these days - but as a matter of interest are there any KL distros that fit on a CD and would boot for a user who had no technical experience?

I cannot reply to that, because I would need to make personal comments about someone.

This is completely disingenuous. If there is a forum rule that you cannot make personal comments about someone, which I believe there is, it would be an utter nonsense if you could make obviously personal comments about an individual as long as you avoided using their name, but instead provided enough side information to make it very clear who you were making the personal comments about! Maybe the forum should have a rule about not being sneaky?

Catch 22!
Any response would be seen as a personal comment about someone.

The real catch is that by not naming the individual you are throwing stones at you effectively strike several with the same stone (but only likely candidates for your ire such as Jasper, myself, or even Sofiya). You should name directly or be seen as using sneaky dialogue.

I

If someone has produced a Linux operating system or software, space on the forum is provided to talk about it, and provide links for downloading it.

Then the person(S) should be thanking rockedge for the service he is providing to them.

Be happy there is a place provided for them to use.

What else is on the forum should not be an issue.

This is my opinion on using this forum to post software of any kind!

Do not try to turn it into a specific statement about any one person.

This applies to me, as well as anyone that posts software, on this forum.

Unsure of the actual figures here, but will generalise .............. approximately 500 hours of content is uploaded to YouTube per minute.

YouTube has in excess of 100 million subscribers.

YouTube rewards it's content providers. Without them they realise people would not use/visit the site.

Filehosting/Drive Locker websites reward their uploaders for driving traffic to their sites.

No-one is stopping anyone from building/coding/compiling their own applications. It's Open Source.

Sometimes it is best to keep ones opinion to themselves. Instead of abusing your position on this forum and dictating to others.

Well, the dictator is allowing your opinion to be posted and seen by others!

Now the forum should be paying people to post on the forum?

Grab yourself a coffee

A dictator is someone who is not elected .......... your requested to become a 'Moderator'

Blessed as I am being in the UK.

We in the UK and EU have a history of disposing our leaders eg monarchy etc for centuries.

As is evident in the world today, leaders are disposed of when democracy is not present.

Recently, Iraq, Libya and Syria................ the list goes on

It will be difficult for KLV-Airedale to be categorized at Distrowatch due to the fact the ISO is a snapshot in time of the system, which being completely Void Linux compatible, follows the rolling updates model. Plus keeping up with support requests might become increasingly difficult.

Maybe after collecting the needed documents I can reconsider submission.

The actual ones that should be on Distrowatch are those that @Sofiya has programmed a script for which do a current, complete build and assembly of the KLV and KLA distro's. The scripts build excellent systems, very edgy yet stable as bedrock in a non-earthquake zone.

Those should have the paperwork collected and produced and have Barry help out getting the application/notice email to the right set of eyes.

Will Distrowatch accept a non-ISO or image file Distro submission like a build script provides?

Never hurts to ask.

Here is Void on DistroWatch.

Maybe this can help you.

Looks like they are posting the snapshots as ISO.

Beauty of @Sofiya's work is the products are ISOs with each build versions.

@bigpup

Did you know the main religion practised in Korea and Vietnam is Buddhism?

Approximately 376 million people follow this religion.

This is culturally insensitive:
