S15Pup32 and S15Pup64 new version 240505 to fix lxterminal problem - thanks Clarity

Verified! S15PUP64 is operating smoothly and appears stable. Very nice!

The Test Table for this thread's ISO files is updated to reflect environments that are working without issues. It remains on the thread here

Will VoidPUP64 be getting similar fix for same "LxTerminal" problem?

Below problem report
This was reported earlier this year for S15PUP64. Did see a reference to another external explanation, but I elected to wait.
The "Persistence" in the error message is my partition with the Sessions folder containing ALL sessions which are booted on this PC.

I ask;

  1. Is it advisable to upgrade e2fsck? And if so, which version or where should it be sourced to get e2fsck in this PUP?

  2. Or should I continue to wait as this is expected to be resolved in an upcoming maintenance release?

Code: Select all

# e2fsck -f /dev/sdb3
e2fsck 1.46.5 (30-Dec-2021)
/dev/sdb3 has unsupported feature(s): FEATURE_C12
e2fsck: Get a newer version of e2fsck!

Persistence: ********** WARNING: Filesystem still has errors **********

In the past, I boot FATDOG on the PC using its 'e2fsck' to repair. But each time I reboot S15, I get the message on each boot.

@peebee - disappointingly, this s15pup64, as is (like 240505 & without any customising), will not play DRM videos via Firefox ESR (240420 & earlier did).

Does the (full) Firefox .sfs from:

help?

I can't think of anything changed in Woof-CE to cause -
https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/w ... s/testing/
and there haven't been many Slackware-15.0 changes since 240420.....
http://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/ ... ngeLog.txt

Does the website video play on any other system/browser combination??

(They seem to play here on LxPupSc32 / Chromium & LxPupSc32 / Firefox (says installing DRM components)
No devx loaded.)

@peebee - several tests on www.afl.com.au videos:

1. As before s15pup64240420 & earlier all work with firefox esr; 240505 & 240518 don't.

2. firefox esr on fossa64-medium works.

3. firefox esr on f96-ce4 works.

4. chromium on 240505 works.

I tried swapping out vte package for vte2 from 240323 & video flashed briefly, then stalled, then timed out.
That is the only change I can see from around that time that has any possibility of being cause.

I wonder if the drm download has changed so that Slackware15 is "too old"?? Maybe run 'checkdeps -system' after the download to see if any missing dependencies reported?

Although the libs may be in:
/root/.mozilla/firefox/qzywafor.default-release/gmp-widevinecdm
/root/.mozilla/firefox/qzywafor.default-release/gmp-gmpopenh264

so will need ldd running on them

I tested (without devx) S15Pup64-240518:

chromium64_alien worked OK

firefox64 after drm download - got a different error message to you - "Live streaming has ended" or somesuch - and a quick flash of video but it didn't play.

@peebee - openh64 (2.3.2) & widevine (4.10.2710.0) versions downloaded are the same in 240323 & 240505. checkdeps didn't reveal any relevant libs missing. Mysterious. I confirm chromium64-alien works, so definitely a firefox issue.

@peebee - I tried s15pup64-240602 - same issues as since 240505, BUT I now know why!

Errors I discovered:

take-a-shot starts but errors out 'something went wrong' when you try to take a screenshot

firefox won't play drm videos - errors out

ffmpeg errors out 'missing libx265.so.199'

THE FIX - copy libx265.so.199 into /usr/lib64 (I used the one from 240323 s15pup64) & restart X.

NEXT DAY - peebee updated ffmpeg (see next post), fixing all above problems.

Hello @peebee

A 'collaborative' WoofCE version of BookWormPup64 is showing up on GITHUB here. It is version v1.0.0.7-240717.

As this is different from @radky + @rockedge version released on the forum ...here

Question as both have the 'base' version number

  • Should your version be tested using the "save-session" from the @radky version? Or should it be run, pristine, building anew?

Thanks @peebee for the updated distros in your github workflow and found on SourceForge

Question, though not very important
