Loving the clean desktop, icons in the tray, including the ones I added, thanks Barry!
Hi, @BarryK ;
I updated my EasyOS to the last version (6,3) and there was no important problem, don't waste your time about this problem I found, because it is a "particular one" easyly solved.
As you can see in my past posts, https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=12435, I had two task bars (one at the top and other at the bottom), when I updated my system, the bottom one had dissapeared.
I had got a back up of jwmr-tray2 file so I only needed to start EASYJWM, mark the option to create an ACCESORY TRAY and then change the newly created jwmr-tray2 with my backup.
As I said, don't worry about this, because it is a non important problem (minimum compared with the beneficts).
I gonna test and I will share my impressions / feelings.
Thanks a lot for your work.- CHEERS
EasyOS 6.3 / WORKING
Note that Easy 6.3 has the 6.6.47 kernel, with drivers builtin that should have fixed the problem reported earlier about bluetooth v5 mouse not working. Have not confirmed yet.
Blog post about 6.6.47 kernel compile:
https://bkhome.org/news/202408/kernel-6 ... mouse.html
Note also, Easy 6.3 has the old jwm version 2.4.2.
I had posted that updated jwm to version 2.4.3.99:
https://bkhome.org/news/202408/jwm-vers ... in-oe.html
But then I discovered there has been a syntax change in the .jwmrc file, causing tray background colour to not display.
This is very annoying, as it breaks all EasyOS and Puppy jwm theme packages.
We had already been through this, what was it it, moving from 2.2 to 2.3 (?), do not want to do it again.
How funny is this?
Firefox, Flathub Brave, Seamonkey and Palemoon will; Chromium and Vivaldi will not display the flags.
https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?t=12422
Vivaldi and Chromium do not use gtk. - Right?
Problem fixed for Chromium and Vivaldi. Flathub fixed it. Sound and video are fine too. https://flathub.org/apps/com.vivaldi.Vivaldi
I updated to EasyOS 6.3;
No problems.
Test of JWM desktop mode.
The icon for the directory /root created in ROX mode appears in the jwm tray but it does not work.
The case of an icon to directly open a folder in ROX-Filer has not been considered by the conversion script.
But that's not important, I prefer the ROX mode. I think a desktop with lots of icons is more practical.
Upgraded from 6.2 to 6.3. I use JWM desktop. All went OK, with only one change to get my desktop back to pre upgrade. Nice, thanks.

Fixed, see blog post:
https://bkhome.org/news/202409/icon-fre ... n-fix.html
@Caramel reported a problem if try to run firefox passed a filename with space character.
Fixed, see blog:
https://bkhome.org/news/202409/fix-clie ... space.html
The fix is based upon suggested fix that Caramel sent me via pm.
I mentioned in the blog post that it is preferable in Linux to not have any paths and filenames with spaces.
Yes, but of course ideally we should detect anywhere this is a problem and fix it.
Hello everyone,
I'm so far behind I didn't even notice the new 6.3 version.
I did an in place upgrade and all went well everything I've used is working.
Thanks again Barry K for all you do to give us this great distro.
Thank You
@BarryK: Am I missing something.
I can not find devx_6.3_amd64.sfs on https://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/eas ... scarthgap/
Greetings

Hello @ghoen
they have not added 6.3 to the NLLUG easyos repo/mirror. Try this one instead for a direct download:

@BarryK would aarnet be willing to mirror easyos? puppylinux is still there.

Yes, we do need another mirror. I have sent an email request to aarnet.
Version 6.3.1 released, see announcement:
Did the update on one hard drive and one USB stick, went smoothly as usual. Haven't had much time to experiment but my usual programs are working well. Thanks, Barry!
I did an in place upgrade update and all went well without any issues and everything I've use works.
Thanks Barry K.
Updated smoothly to 6.3.1, the only glitch I lost the second tray I had setup in 6.3 in jwm desktop

Yes, I think it was pp4mnklinux who posted about that when updated to 6.3.
But he had a backup and was able to restore the tray.

To those who use JWM to provide the desktop, after update the secondary tray is not displayed, however the config file/s .jwmrc-tray2 and also .jwmrc-tray2_hybrid if using hybrid hiding of the tray, are still maintained from prior to the update. The <Include>/root/.jwmrc-tray2</Include>
statement is not maintained in the .jwmrc file. Adding this to the .jwmrc, then Shutdown > Rectify > Restart JWM will restore tray2. However, it may vanish again when changing configurations, so I add it to the template file /etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc, then on future boots it is restored.

Thanks, I have put that into the template file. It doesn't matter if /root/.jwmrc-tray2 doesn't exist; jwm will just output a non-fatal error message to /tmp/xerrors.log
I have updated from v6.2 to v6.3.1 a couple of days ago.
Now I have noticed that unfortunately AnyDesk does not run correctly any more, neither in the deb version nor in the FlatPak version. Even the portable tar.gz package version does not run correctly.
The issue is, that the program window appears and closes itself immediately after some hundredths of a second (so that it cannot be used). After about 5 seconds the program closes itself definitively.
This issue had already occurred in the past if I remember well, and had been permanently fixed after a while. It looks like something's not OK regarding the communication with the VTE library.
These is the output I get when I launch AnyDesk (Flatpak from Flathub):
Code: Select all
shell-init: Kann das aktuelle Verzeichnis nicht wiederfinden: getcwd: Kann auf die übergeordneten Verzeichnisse nicht zugreifen.: No such file or directory
shell-init: Kann das aktuelle Verzeichnis nicht wiederfinden: getcwd: Kann auf die übergeordneten Verzeichnisse nicht zugreifen.: No such file or directory
/etc/profile.d/vte.csh: Zeile 19: Syntaxfehler beim unerwarteten Symbol »!«
/etc/profile.d/vte.csh: Zeile 19: `if ( ! $?prompt | ! $?tcsh | ! $?TERM | ! $?VTE_VERSION )'
#
This could also be theoretically a system wide issue when using the libvte library, because the text inside /etc/profile.d/vte.csh looks to be correct.

It looks like /etc/profile.d/vte.csh is in a foreign package. EasyOS has libvte and does not have that file.
Delete that file and try anydesk again.

Dear Barry, thank you very much for your attention.
I have removed the file. The error disappeared, but the issue remained. If I reopen the window many times after each disappearence by clicking on the tray icon, the program gives the following output:
Code: Select all
(anydesk:1187): IBUS-WARNING **: 16:36:59.373: Unable to connect to ibus: Verbindung ist gescheitert: Veraltete Dateizugriffsnummer (file handle)

Now a new remote control program has catched my attention. It's called HopToDesk. I'm going to test it.
AnyDesk doesn't really seem to be much Linux-friendly after all.
So, I tried to set the system language to english, so that we can exclude the possibility of any language-related issue.
The issue persists. The english text of the same error messages is:
Code: Select all
# anydesk
(anydesk:1032): IBUS-WARNING **: 19:58:09.812: Unable to connect to ibus: Could not connect: Stale file handle
(anydesk:1063): IBUS-WARNING **: 19:58:09.991: Unable to connect to ibus: Could not connect: Stale file handle
(anydesk:1094): IBUS-WARNING **: 19:58:10.199: Unable to connect to ibus: Could not connect: Stale file handle
Regarding HopToDesk, it for sure does not seem to work between EasyOS and EasyOS (so we still can't say if the problem pertains transmission, reception or both). The program receives a new ID / password pair when it starts, but it isn't able to reach the other host (connection failed).
We have managed to let HopToDesk work. You won't believe what the problem was.
Basically, it's just a visualization problem: the HopToDesk-ID is composed of 9 digits, but for some reason on EasyOS the window is not wide enough to contain all of them, and the last digit gets hidden (or, equivalently, the ID is written too wide, so that it doesn't fit the width of its window). Therefore, it's enough to triple click the ID, or to select it with the mouse cursor for the last character on the right to show up... I really can't believe it!
So, this is a new remote control possibility on EasyOS. HopToDesk can be downloaded from here; Flathub flatpak
I looked over at some of the packages available from Guix and IMHO it will not replace flapi. For instance, from Guix, the LibreOffice version is 7.6.7.2, while from flatpak, a user can download the latest version with about one or two weeks' delay, currently version 24.8.1.2 (there was a change in version numbering to year.month, etc.). I admit that flatpaks are somewhat cumbersome, but they work. I am continuing to enjoy the development of EasyOS, having installed it on a 128GB thumb drive. What I like is being able to install some obscure programs like tkoutline in kit form and treesheets - modulo maybe a few libraries to be installed. That's not the case for other distros that I have tried. Nice to see you have symphytum even though the GitHub site is read only and cherrytree.
On the other hand, there are packages like pdf2djvu, which are handy to have.

For the Flatpak version , there are more logs in /home/anydesk/.anydesk/anydesk.trace
