Yes, I do performance test using Hardinfo.

Seems 'maybe' your video card and the video subsystem struggle a bit.

Oh well, hardware differences may be why I dont have the same problem(s) you see.

Hi @rockedge (and friends),

Following from our discussion about fixing my Vassal implementation problem on this thread I'm trying to download the iso for F96-CE_4 so that I can try implementing Vassal on that distro.

Unfortunately every attempt to download it ends with a Secure Connection Failed error.

It doesn't matter which route I take to do that, whether from your webpage, from the ISO link or from the Puppy Linux home download page nor does it matter whether I use Firefox or Pale Moon to access the page.

So I'm rather stuck and will be grateful for any help you might offer.

Best regards, @ChrisH

@ChrisH

Try using Wget in terminal

Code: Select all

wget https://rockedge.org/kernels/data/ISO/F96-CE/F96-CE_4.iso

@ChrisH

Try using Wget in terminal

Code: Select all

wget https://rockedge.org/kernels/data/ISO/F96-CE/F96-CE_4.iso

Using uGet, 8 secs download time with no problem.

So, wget worked and the iso was successfully downloaded as follows

Code: Select all

wget https://rockedge.org/kernels/data/ISO/F96-CE/F96-CE_4.iso

but the file failed with GtkHash using the hash file from https://rockedge.org/kernels/data/ISO/F ... _4-ISO.txt. So maybe I shouldn't trust it? Regards, ChrisH

Guess, you will have to download again if you want the correct verification to match.

@ChrisFH

I just downloaded a copy of F96-CE_4.iso from the same location and the ISO tested against the SHA1-MD5_F96-CE_4-ISO.txt values in gtkhash successfully. The value for SHA1 match:

@rockedge , @Jasper , thanks. I've never been really sure of the purpose of the hash key. I have it in mind that it's to verify that the downloaded file has not been maliciously modified, though I don't remember where I first got that idea from. That's the reason why I wondered whether I should trust it. I'll try again. Best regards, @ChrisH

@rockedge , OK, it looks like I downloaded an out of date Hash key file. The file I used for my failed attempt came from this address https://rockedge.org/kernels/data/ISO/F ... 64_9.6.txt , which I must have picked up by mistake by copying the hash file link for the devx version instead of the https://rockedge.org/kernels/data/ISO/F ... _4-ISO.txt version :oops: . So I'm good to go now that the hash check shows green :mrgreen: . Thanks everyone and best regards, @ChrisH
