Updated thru Easyupdate--No problemo.
Updated just fine. Thank you Mr. Barry
How about this one?
Yes, it works very well with esayOS v. 6.2 .
Errata: See BarryK's next post.
Sorry!
Would'nt install for me to check it out. Came up in flappi but no icon. Even firefox is turning into a google these days. Invasive and closed shop on choice. Good reviews are head to head with the bad with all of them.
Smooth sailing to 6.2, thx Barry.

Leave off that "apps/"
I successfully installed and used OCRmyPDF on Scarthgap (since v 6.1). It's in my opinion the best software for PDF text recognition.
- based on Tesseract
- the processing is very fast
- the text recognition is very powerful (it basically always recognizes all of the included text)
- the generated output PDF-files are compact
- all the included background images are kept, without any color modification
To achieve this, these 42 packages need to be downloaded and installed. The list follows:
- ghostscript_9.53.3~dfsg-7+deb11u7_amd64.deb
- libcurl4_7.88.1-10+deb12u6_amd64.deb <----- to be uninstalled and reinstalled after every EasyOS update

both commands should not report any error whatsoever.
More over, the target of the symbolic link /usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/ocrmypdf/data/sRGB.icc must be changed to /usr/share/color/icc/ghostscript/srgb.icc, otherwise you'll get a Python error. If you have a powerful file manager (like KDE Dolphin) this can be done quite easily by just looking at the properties of the link. If you don't, you can do that by issueing the following commands:
Code: Select all
# cd /usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/ocrmypdf/data
# ln -sfT /usr/share/color/icc/ghostscript/srgb.icc sRGB.icc
update to 6.2 perfectly successful; Thanks Barry.
Update to 6.2 successfull. The system looks to be running a little bit more stable, especially during start ups and shutdowns.
I have been exüeriencing sporadic freezes or strange slowdowns with 6.1 and 6.1.1, often accompanied to the network card being dead. Now it all runs very stable.
More over, all applications appear to launch faster. This is particularly visible when launching heavier programs like LibreOffice, Gimp and even all of the KDE apps I'm using.
Thank you Barry!
Still amazed that I can watch a live television broadcast on a samsung n210plus 2gb , bought in 2011, still functioning.
tks Barry K.
Greetings
Thanks Barry K.
Love the new background.
Trains and train stations are just cool.
I did a frugal install to a usb drive on a new to me thrift store desktop it went without problems and sofar everything I've used works as it's supposed to.
Thanks again.

Hello All,
Just upgraded Easy OS 6.1.1 to Easy OS 6.2 on a desktop I cobbled together from other computers.
The upgrade went without a hitch and everything I have used works OOTB.
I never been much on upgrades from version to version although Easy OS does it successfully OOTB.
Thanks Barry K for all of your work.
Hello,
L'installation n'a pas l'air compliquée, et pourtant... c'est si compliqué de faire un vrai pas à pas ? Le tutoriel est incompréhensible, désolé.
Sur la clé usbv ça marche, mais dès que je veux l'installer sur le SSD (sans cohabitation), c'est à dire copier les 3 fichiers prévus + configurer avec grub bootloader... et bien non, a ne démarre pas;
Lenovo thinkpad X260

Hi @BarryK ,
I'm running into a problem with EasyOS.
As soon as I change my clock type to UTC time it becomes a permanent setup. I'm unable to revert it. I can change the setup to locale time as well as software to match hardware but this setup will not survive a power off. After a power off I'll be back to UTC. In my case +2 hours ahead.
Changing the timezone via 'Set timezone' from UTC+1 to Europe/Berlin will survive the power off but clock type via 'Set hardware-clock type' will not.
Regards,
Feodor

Ok, do I get it right that I have to get another pendrive to make a brand new EasyOS 6.x install on it to get vmlinuz, initrd and easy.sfs files and then copy them over to my current pendrive where I currently have 5.8.3? I cannot download these files from somewhere directly without need to do a fresh EasyOS install?

No.
Running EasyOS 5.8.3, download easy-6.2-amd64..img, click on it to open it up.
Drag the three files to /mnt/wkg

The script /usr/bin/set_hwclock_type write the chosen clock type in /etc/clock.
At reboot /etc/clock is overwritten by /etc/clock.${PC_HARDWARE_PROFILE} where the variable PC_HARDWARE_PROFILE is available in /tmp/pc-hardware-profile) (see /etc/rc.d/rc.country line 41)
So the chosen clock type must be written in /etc/clock.${PC_HARDWARE_PROFILE} too.
Thank you very much @Caramel, well done !

Important if you don't use your Smart Phone for it.
Some 'Global-Cloud' based https:// sites demand that your PC's RTC is synchronized with the NTP server; 'localtime' becomes a requirement.
Hence I have used Menu -> Setup -> Date & Time Setup -> Qsync set time from Internet

What was I going to say? - Don't know.

I was able to boot EasyOS Scarthgap-series version 6.2 from a USB stick
I had to use legacy method of HP BIOS

However limine installer didn't work --> perhaps because of strange 2 disk install
I have with internal SATA ??? Other linux distros don't boot up with legacy. LICK config file works, but not in the way intended.
i.e. I have to 'boot from file'
Windows 10 does boot, but perhaps
this is a legacy method that HP computers allow.
There is a UEFI folder
