Note that the youtube downloader doesn't work. Blog post:
Most users have switched to yt-dlp for a long time. Configs and settings are the same.
Youtube-dl has been frozen since Dec 16, 2021.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp
yt-dlp is a youtube-dl fork based on the now inactive youtube-dlc. The main focus of this project is adding new features and patches while also keeping up to date with the original project
Merged with youtube-dl v2021.12.17+ commit/2dd6c6e (exceptions) and youtube-dlc v2020.11.11-3+ commit/f9401f2: You get all the features and patches of youtube-dlc in addition to the latest youtube-dl
Yes, Dec 2021 is the last tagged release, however the project is still very active with regular commits
https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl
I use the latest commit from that site.

uextract 4.10 now works in kirkstone
I made the change to pinstall.sh file.
All versions of Easy OS should be able to install the pet now.
It only works in main window.

Version 4.101 is out!
See announcement and notes here:

@esmourguit
I commented about fr overlapping icon labels in the blog post. Is it possible to make any of them shorter?
Also, I tested translating vobcopy, it translates OK. I don't know why you were getting a Bing error -- were you running 4.99?

Another bug bites the dust!
issue-1 in the 4.101 blog announcement was non-translated desktop icon labels in the containerized desktop. Fixed:

@ BarryK
For the translation of vobcopy, I tried several times without success, using momanager. I am using an HP core I7 4710 MQ @2.50 gHz laptop with 8 GB of ram.
For the icon labels, I only found a solution to truncate the texts:
Internet = Connex. (Connexion)
Partager = Part.
Actualiser = Actu.
Sauver stay Sauver
It does the job. And I don't know any shorter synonyms.

@esmourguit
You are correct, the error message "[ERROR] Bing does not support the specified language" occurs several times.
I was not watching attentatively during translation, only looked at the end result, which is mostly OK, just needed a bit of editing.
That error message occurs when the English input is "\n", that is, just the C newline, no other text. It was easy enough to fix in the .po file.
Hopefully I have remembered the correct multi-line syntax for .po files, have attached fr vobcopy.po and vobcopy.mo, with false .gz appended.
Used the auto-translate feature.

not specific to kirkstone as I noticed the issue with the last of the dunfells also....
make an install and set some stuff up. create a snapshot.
when rolling back to the last saved session at boot time, the rollback seems to work ok, ie the saved configs are there, but the quick setup first run settings also runs and may give the user the impression that he has rolled back to a pristine state without any configs saved

Will the devx and kernel SFS be available in version 5?
Yes. They are also there in 4.101
Anyway, 5.0 is imminent.
Let's see, it is 10.20am right now in Perth Australia. Perhaps tonight I will build 5.0-final, give it some basic testing then upload.
I made a change to export keyboard layout into a container:
viewtopic.php?p=82493#p82493
...just presuming my suggestion will work.
That is only for the case of the Xephyr server running, which is when run an entire containerized desktop.

Machine: Lenovo Optipex 990 desktop
UEFI not possible because it's older BIOS-firmware computer
Review: I couldn't do a frugal install ---> easy.sfs not found message during bootup???
So I did an install on 32 meg SD card. It booted up fast and showed the desktop.
Nouveau graphics driver was automatically chosen ---> I have nvidia GT 1030 graphics card installed
When I clicked on kirkstone icon I wasn't able to go the container
Apparently there is problem with the video driver and the container.
My machine forced me to go through the xorgwizard routine however I wasn't able to change the graphics driver to VESA.
I was stuck to the nouveau driver. So I wan't able to test the kirkstone container.

Next I checked Sharing, but apparently the samba package wasn't installed.
Samba is greyed out. Ethernet connected automatically.
I wasn't able to connect my Chromebook laptop unfortunately.

I tested Momanager. It is now able to switch from one language to another smoothly.
However I found a serious flaw. Here is how to repeat the flaw.
First use the language utility app to switch from English to French. I checked that $LANG is now 'fr'.
Now launch Momanager. I get this screen that would indicate that Momanager thinks I am still in English....
- screenshot-momanager1.png (27.42 KiB) Viewed 1156 times
And there is warning that I haven't set utf-8 , but I have.
- screenshot-momanager3.png (17.69 KiB) Viewed 1156 times
Alternate method that works:
If I am in English and then launch Momanager ---> I allow Momanager to make the switch of LANG variable from en to fr then there is no problem. Momanager works as expected.

I tested my wacom graphics tablet but I found some problems with the driver.
1) mtpaint works correctly however the preferences need to be reset at each launch which indicates some incompatibility.???
2) mypaint appimage worked very well
3) krita 5.1 appimage worked very well . I couldn't test krita SFS because I could get container to work,
but maybe Buster container can work . I didn't check.
4) GIMP both appimage and built-in version would work at first launch but at second launch they would consistently crash
and the brush wouldn't work at all.

If the kernel boot params has correct wkg_uuid and wkg_dir params, then initrd should be able to find easy.sfs
Next I checked Sharing, but apparently the samba package wasn't installed.
Samba is greyed out.
Click on "pkg" icon and install samba.
Feodor has tested samba, reported it works.

What is "language utility app"?
I repeated your procedure, booted in English, ran QuickSetup in the Setup category of the menu, chose "fr_FR", it then asked if restart X, choose yes, then after desktop restarted, ran momanager, works fine.
4) GIMP both appimage and built-in version would work at first launch but at second launch they would consistently crash

I tested on a laptop with AMD Radeon video. Ran built-in Gimp multiple times, no problem. Brush works.
Anyone else with Nvidia card and issues with containers and/or gimp?
I don't have a computer setup with a video card right now.

I tested another way to change en to fr, using radky's PupControl.
Click on "setup" icon, choose "Country setup", choose fr_FR, restart X ...test momanager, it works.

don570,
Regarding easy.sfs not found in a frugal install, I presume you made an entry for Grub or Grub4dos?
An important thing to know about Grub v1, Grub4dos, and some early versions of Grub2, is they will not recognise an ext4 partition if it has the encryption feature enabled.
If that is the case, then ext4 encrypt needs to be disabled. Here is a link explains how:

BTW, I wish to modify the 10 second time out at boot time for choosing rollback. can you tell me where I might find the line in ~/initrd-expanded?
That is line 344 in the 'init' script in the initrd.
I changed the timeout to 5 seconds (it's Kirkstone 5.0 - it's line 346 of init script).
The time changed, but the menu text still say 15 seconds.
Where can I find the text to reflect this change?

If you look at the 'init' script, the text is ${S026}
You will find that variable in nls/en/init.str
for the example of English choice.

No.
I checked this code in the init script:
Code: Select all
read -r -t 300 KBnum
[ $? -ne 0 ] && return 1 #timed out
KBnum=$(echo -n "$KBnum" | sed -e 's%[^0-9]%%g')
[ ! $KBnum ] && KBnum=44
[ $KBnum -gt 45 ] && KBnum=44
[ $KBnum -eq 0 ] && KBnum=44
KEYMAP="$(ls -1 /lib/keymaps | head -n ${KBnum} | tail -n 1 | sed -e 's%\.gz%%')"
If you type in "14", then it will set KEYMAP=dvorak
Then later on it loads the keyboard map:
Code: Select all
gunzip -c /lib/keymaps/${KEYMAP}.gz | loadkmap
