So I finally bit the bullet and decided to update to this latest iteration of Fatdog. I would like to report complete success on a Lenovo Thinkpad X201 @ 4 Gb or RAM. Frugal install on a hard drive. Everything works straight out of the box.

Yes, I confirmed resolution was 1920x1080 in both zarfy and lxrandr.

Also, Regarding usb-c displayport/hdmi - I've continued testing and it appears that no additional modules are actually required. I've established that none of the 5.4 Kernel-line up to the latest (5.4.120) are compatible with my laptop's usb-c port - so far it's 5.10 or newer. I will update when I discover more.

Edit: I have now confirmed that support for my laptop's usb-c displayport was added in kernel 5.5 (tests done with 5.5.19), however I note some stability issues using this kernel, with Fatdog not booting at all on some occasions. This could perhaps be down to how I compiled the kernel and modules. No additional modules / kernel flags are required. Let me know if you require any further info.

I think we're missing a few modules when it comes to usb-c controllers. I'll put the ones you listed on our todo list for future kernels. Do keep in mind that Nvidia tends to be poorly supported by the open source drivers, since they have to be reverse engineered. Also, Ubuntu heavily patches their kernels and maybe they've addressed your specific hardware. Hopefully when we get around to another release the kernel will work for you.

Just to clarify, my experience has been that Kernel 5.5 or newer is required, with 5.6 or newer seemingly more stable. None of the new usb-c modules introduced are needed in my case.

@kirk as you are probably aware, nVidia has signed on to Wayland and it appears their future development will be in concert with Wayland. Thus future with Xorg use may become questionable.

As you know WoofCE is making progress in their efforts to bring Wayland into PUP future with couple working models.

Maybe Wayland for 2021 Fatdog?

Yes, we'll want to include those anyway, in your case I suspect we need CONFIG_FB_UDL=m.

Wasn't aware of that, good news. In the past Nvidia has not supported the open source efforts at all and releases few technical docs. Maybe they'll start supporting Nouveau.

My guess would be not for the next release, but we haven't got to that point yet.

What a beautiful distro! I just booted Fatdog64 for the first time. Unfortunately, I'm having the same issue in it that drove me to it:

Redshift isn't working in any Puppy or puppy-like distro I've tried on my computer except Slacko64-8.2.1, and now that includes Fatdog. I have a brand new monitor, delivered in May: ASUS VA27EHE 27” Eye Care Monitor Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS 75Hz Adaptive-Sync HDMI D-Sub Frameless
Maybe it's a hardware problem.

I installed Fatdog64-811 Final on a windows computer (windows 10 and old BIOS machine)
using lick installer program I found in ISO

One confusing detail ---> savefile

The first boot warned me to save any files created during the first boot, however the warning message
failed to mention that a save file can be created on first boot and how to do it!!!
Fortunately I knew that fatdog64 offers this option during shutdown

Here is lickmenu.lst that was automatically created by lick ....

In the Control Panel (found in the Menu) it has a tab (folder) which contains a "Savefile maker".

All I see is 'Savefile argument Builder' and 'Savefile tool'

There is a script that can be run....
/usr/sbin/savefile.sh

which will create a savefile. This is run when shutting down after the first boot.

I installed the last hardinfo package hardinfo-2021.04.11.0.6alpha-x86_64-1.txz from the repo and I noticed the new CPU notes showing the number of cores and the number of threads .
On both laptops I tried it , the number of threads was shown as 1 . Actually I know they are more ...
In the screenshot posted , the window above is from the old package meanwhile the bottom one is from the last installed package .

And there supposed to be 4 threads for that Athlon, correct?

If it gets fixed, we'll update it in FD.

Btw, are all 4 CPUs shown on Devices->Processor tab?

Yes , there are 4 threads for my Athlon and all CPUs are shown on Devices->Processor tab . The same thing happens with different laptop(CPU) .

Language packs for Fatdog can be downloaded as .sfs this way:

launch Fatdog control panel (icon on the tray or find it in menu), then go to "system" tab and double-click on "SFS manager".
You will see if French is available.

Download the latest .sfs for version 812 (fd64-nls_812.sfs).

Load it (right-click on it and choose "load SFS").

Set French in Fatdog control panel -> Localization -> Fatdog64 Set Locale (you have probably already done so).

Then menu -> restart X.
