Puppy bootable USB drive contains files like *.sfs, *.adrv, *.fdrv, etc.

Ventoy-created USB drive contains files like puppy.iso, easyos.img, mx.iso, mint.iso, manjaro.iso, etc.

Does it make sense?

Use Rufus!

If you have windows 7 or higher, Rufus will burn the fossapup iso properly to USB. Everything looks normal now and I can create a save folder to sda4. I would not recommend putting fossapup on a ventoy USB.

For now this is a great solution. Etcher on Linux did not work for me. Fossapup would not boot. What tool in puppy Linux can I try to burn the fossapup iso to USB? Any other tools in Linux I can try?

My issue with fossapup has been experienced by many users. Jim acklaw on YouTube will be doing a video of how to burn fossapup properly in Linux,so this is a known issue with fossapup.

Fossapup has the program Frugalpup Installer.
Use this to do installs to USB, SD cards.

The program can be used in many Puppy versions.
Frugalpup Installer

Too old a Puppy version or one that has been very modified, may not have everything needed, to properly run Frugalpup Installer.

Most Puppy versions have several installer programs. They should work for installing Puppy.
The Puppy Universal Installer works, but only for the Puppy version it is running in.

For other Linux OS's.
Unetbootin usually works.

However read the info posted here:

Read the info about using installers, not specifically made for installing Puppy Linux.

As far as I remember, Rufus 31.4 no longer supports IMG format.
Use Rufus 31.3p instead.

Rufus 3.1.4 ran fine for me. I'll try frugalpup installer and see if that works because for me Rufus is the only solution that really works! What is Rufus doing right that other Linux options like etcher don't?

Here are two screenshots of my Rufus formatted USB stick. Could I use these images to create another usb stick in puppy?

I tried the frugalpup installer mentioned in a post above. Didn't work. The usb stick would not boot. I created a new partition table ext4.

I'll try your other two options. SG2D, ISObooter. Are they in the puppy package manager or other repos?

ISObooter is in the old forum here since 2011.

For pre-UEFI computers, it continues to be the simplest choice if you are starting from a Puppy machine.

However, I have not tested it in Fossa to confirm whether persistence can be set up properly. The additional notes on page 12 may apply to Fossapup.

AFAIR I couldn't flash easyOS.img with Rufus 3.14.

Rufus has more features and options:

How do we know you did it correctly?
No information about how you used it.
You do what?
You see what?

It is a program you run in a booted Puppy version.
It is not made to work in anything but Puppy OS.

I use it all the time to make working bootable USB installs of Puppy Linux OS's.
