That is the problem ...
For a question asked of me, i must be allowed the choice to answer.
bigpup wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 5:36 pm... Someone has to volunteer to do it and have access to the locations it is posted.
Very few people like to do documentation and have the time to work on it.
It is what it is! ... All of use have other jobs and a life, that is not working on Puppy Linux ...
I would easily have. But my standard is very rigid. I have to know, first hand, what each package does, according to my own standards.
If you knew someone from Debian,... I have already suggested alterations in info on Debian packages via wiki pages.
Free Software appears to have come to mean squatters, backbenchers. Not what Dr. RMS and his small team envisaged.
when documentation is done by someone with the acumen to form a holistic view, Bird's Eye View from a far off distance, problems could have been solved. But at least Puppy BB has a reward system based on thumbs up. It could have been made into a scorecard from -3 to +3.

rajibando wrote: Fri Apr 16, 2021 4:24 pmPlease also note that i have not yet been directed to, or taught (it is not in the mentioned page even), how to frugal install. I could refer to the exact line, but the BB code is very limited for referencing a phrase, a sentence or a paragraph.
Yes you have been directed, here: viewtopic.php?p=22900#p22900
Have you checked out the procedure of @PipzDex yet?
Point 1 is for formatting your pendrive.
The frugal install is points 2-3. That is really all it is.
Points 4-6 are for the bootloader.
You can do similar on a HDD, but may adapt points 1 and 4-6 according to what is already on the HDD.
And yes you have, here: viewtopic.php?p=22919#p22919
Did you read the short topic linked there?
If:
Puppy pages mention on the first line on dd and then a little later, on frugal install, but isn't found to be explaining how to frugal install,
Then:
Why isn't the board pursued to update puppy pages?
Almost funny this. What board?
This is not a company à la Windows. We are not at the service of clients here.
We are a community at each others service in our own spare time.
The links you found are not the best for your purpose indeed.
Puppy's documentation is not extensive, true.
That is simply because too few people find too little time to work on it, or feel the need to.
Feel free to take up the task. Puppy is a do-ocracy.
The best information is often on this forum.

Then you have already done documentation for dpup's packages already!

I am not a computer specialist/programmer. My vocation is distinct from core programming.
I had an emergency situation because of a new HDD that I had bought for the HCL Me laptop and wanted to have the HDD tested extensively.
In the given situation, specific information reading rather than forums posts reading would have helped. Reading forum posts for information didn't appear to suit my purpose. Confusing documentation didn't help.
I have now installed Knoppix image 9.1 on HDD with persistent. Next try shall be to configure the nvidia chip.
Later, i could try puppy. Given the lack of documentation, might not be a good choice. But thank you all for trying to interact.
I would better have a system where focussed individuals received monetary support for helping out. Even crowdfunding campaign for a particular distro could help.
Please have a good day.
