@dimkr
There is already a C version, that EasyOS uses in the initrd.
It is called 'fscryptctl' and here is my recipe to compile it, linked with musl:
https://github.com/bkauler/oe-qky-scart ... c_1.0.0.bb
The static binary is 62KB, x86_64. I've attached it, compressed with real ".gz"
"./fscryptctl --help" will show info how to use it.
The fscryptctl project page:
https://github.com/google/fscryptctl
Looked at your pfscrypt code, it looks simpler and smaller.

Re: QV is returning
@williwaw re no start Network manager. thx for your reply. i'll fire up qv and get back on here with details. Have tried the superficial with no luck so far. One system window came up warning of inbuilt problems with it and cures beyond me. if it's ends up a drama, please drop it, I still have Scarthgap and Daedalus up and running.
Re: QV is returning
@williwaw Re network manager.- Right click brings up edit connections etc- Nothing happens when trying to enter anything. Notifications bounce between network manager is disabled and Network manager isn't running.
Network manager listings in menu brings up nothing. Typing network manager in terminal says unrecognized command.

You should be seeing this when you right-click the icon.:

Re: QV is returning
@williwaw nmtui says no network manager -doesn't exist. When Dandaedalus starts i get a note saying can't find network manager name- org freedom desktop and next line says it's started.
I don't know what i did to inspire the system notification on QV that said that the manager has inbuilt problems.
The network manager box won't accept ticking the boxes. like it's dead.

there are multiple components working together, some of which seem to be working
running NetworkManager
in the terminal returns
NetworkManager is already running (pid 3623)
in my working system. I did have to use the two capitals N and M to run the command properly. See if that makes a difference.
Was it working initially and since failed?
What kind of internet connection does the machine have?
Do other installs on the same machine have internet that works?
If you boot a different machine with your USB do you get the same results?
Re: QV is returning
@williwaw Have yet to run Network Manager. Put fresh install QV, on samsung stick and fired it up on my mini zotec which has MInt install. Network manager won't fire up on my L390 Yoga with QV.
When i removed windows off the Yoga, it has left around 20 entries in my bootmgr.
Both Scarthgap and Daedalus fire up Network Manager on any machine though Daedalus says initially it can't read The Network Manager -freedom desktop Org etc.
The System window that warned of inbuilt problems and vaguely what to do and or download will need to be brought up again.
The matter seems to be my end to try figure. I will read through and watch the forum and see if anyone else comes up with a cure.
Thx so much, and @bugnaw333 for input and putting me in deduction mode.I like your desktop screen.
QV is awesome though only have 4gb memory to play with on the zotecs, it is lightning fast and I like it's format. big thx.

@bugnaw333
Just downloaded 3rd QV image on new HP usb 3.2. It fired up on the yogaL390 and Network Manager worked but had different icon. I restarted because Firefox said to- 2 firefoxes trying to open-and network manager was disabled again and changed back to non working icon - Window said Network Manager doesn't exist. When it worked, it had a different icon. When it failed on restarting, it had the working icon for a couple of seconds and changed to the non working icon .
Presently moved QV usb to my mini zotec with Mint onboard and QV is working like a charm and this is the network icon that fails on the yoga L390.
Appears to be two network managers onboard QV. My zotecs have dos32- don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Am using the new image available , only had one choice. Thx for your trouble, Have a good day.

if I read the last few posts correctly, the failure with QV only happens on the yoga?
and you have tried with different USBs with multiple election QV installs?
Re: QV is returning
@williwaw
Yes. during first troubles ,a window came up saying network can have troubles and included 3 things to try including a download but it's beyond my pc ability status to take it in. So I will wait till someone else comes across the trouble and posts a cure I went into menu and under defaults changed preference to Connection wizard than Network Manager but it goes back to NM during reboot. When QV worked for one time on the yoga, I had set it all up on linuxmint which has same network box icon as the one that worked on the yoga. I can't remember what I was doing initially that brought the info box up that mentioned cures. My unqualified guess is that the matter may evolve around my dos32 and 64 bit issues.
I have pushed on media and lobbied politics for an Australian OS. i believe our homegrown Barry has nailed it. These are brilliant. QV's a gem though I am limited to only 4gb memory to play with on my zotecs for now, they are very capable little machines. I'm quite fine with Quirky's desktop pic too. Though it's a bit cocky I use to breed and release the rarer cocky's, parrots and finches and can easily live with the pic.
Big thx to Barry and crew on here for them. I will be donating thru pay/pal as soon as my car's back on the road.
Re: QV is returning
I don't need any donations.
I did receive a US$20 a little while ago, from Michael I think, sent him a thank you, but really don't need it.
Best to donate to rockedge who maintains this forum and the puppy domains -- there's a donate link somewhere.
A recent expense I had was renewed puppylinux.org domain registration for 2 years. It was about AU$60 I recall, a bit expensive but it is an AU registrar. That's the only puppy domain I still "own", puppylinux.com is managed by rockedge.
