Dear BarryK
I am wondering what I may be doing wrong here.

I downloaded the Easy 6.1 image, mounted and copied easyos folder in an ext4 partition.
Added the stanza shown in the grup4dos menu (Geany has line wrapping as you can see from the line numbers) and I get the error showing.
Indeed there is nothing is the easyos folder than what is shown before or after the boot attempt.
This is in a qemu virtual machine along other puppies

I did not try easyos since 3.2, so apologies if I missed something important already said that explains my problem
Thank you

My guess is that /mnt/sdb1/easyos is not as empty as you think. It may have hidden files or folders.
This would happen if you are using the same 'easyos' folder from a previous install of Easy.

In Rox, right-click, choose "Display -> Show hidden".

Thank you. That was it!
A hard shutdown in the first attempt due to qemu display setting incompatibility, generated the hidden files. Works fine now.

A little annoyance that I have is the "NaturalScrolling".
The touchpad is not detected in the qemu, the mouse setup has no option for natural scrolling (radky'w utilities do provide that) and the manual method through 40-libinput.conf is ignored and nothing changes.
What would be the indicated method to reverse scrolling direction?
Thanks again

Edit: Copying the edited relevant amended sections for /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf to /etx/X11/xorg.conf, worked

@Caramel ,

modprobe snd_soc_dmic

cool - now Volume Control and ALSA capture R+L are in sync. If I move the slider from Silence to 100% capture follows.
Will have to buy a new microphone tomorrow to complete the test.

Have I read this correctly, you now have the mic working?

In that case, I might not compile the kernel with sof (sound open firmware) enabled.

Last night I did compile the 6.6.41 kernel with sof and lots of new modules, but if not required, why rock the boat?
These new modules will also require new firmware, and if sound is already working, why introduce these alternative drivers, that may bring new problems?

@nnriyer posted in various places that Limine Installer was finding some installs of EasyOS incorrectly, such as post here:

viewtopic.php?p=100954#p100954

I have fixed that, and also Limine Installer was missing some installations of EasyOS, fixed that too.

Issues since update to v 6.1.1

@ Barry K

Dear Barry,
I have to report some issues occurring since update to v 6.1.1. KDE Dolphin and Okular, which I had installed through foreign packages and updated to v 22.12.3 since the release of EasyOS Scarthgap, don't seem to work any more for some reason which I'm trying to find out.

Dolphin reports the error: Unable to create KIO worker. Unknown protocol "file"

Screenshot(29).jpg
Screenshot(29).jpg (65.34 KiB) Viewed 1902 times
Screenshot(30).jpg
Screenshot(30).jpg (110.94 KiB) Viewed 1902 times

Okular reports the error: The shared library was not found

Screenshot(31).jpg
Screenshot(31).jpg (12.84 KiB) Viewed 1902 times

although no error message is reported when launching it from the Sakura shell. I have already tried to reinstall all the packages of the apps and this didn't unfortunately solve the issue. Strangely enough, Ktorrent still works perfectly and did not experience any problem.
Furthermore, all of my extensions for Ungoogled Chromium 126 suddenly disappeared at once. They were stored on /usr/lib/chromium on my installation.
Maybe there were changes to the folder structure of the system? Or something specific isn't working as expected?

If you install foreign packages, expect trouble.

Ungoogled Chromium should be installed from the menu "Internet -> Download latest Ungoogled Chromium".
It will install to /usr/lib/ungoogled

/usr/lib/chromium is for the Chromium builtin to easy.sfs

Okular is available as a Flatpak, installable via Flapi.

Issues since update to v 6.1.1

Since the kernel has been updated to v 6.6.39, and the error on Dolphin is exactly the one which occurs when the kio package is missing, I have tried reinstalling the packages kio, kio-extras and kio-extras-data, as well as updating them to v 23.08.4-2 (testing), to no avail. And I also tried updating the applications themselves (Okular and Dolphin) to their relative testing 23.08.1 versions. This did neither solve the issues. I'm using Thunar and PCManFM-QT in the meanwhile. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for answering immediately. Ungoogled Chromium had been of course installed from the menu entry. It used to work perfectly on v 6.1. I have both folders /usr/lib/chromium and /usr/lib/ungoogled and my extensions existed on the folder /usr/lib/chromium/extensions if I remember well. They used to work both on Chromium and Ungoogled Chromium. But now they suddenly disappeared. The program itself still works fine. I think I can reinstall them, that shouldn't be a problem. Only I wonder why did they disappear.

But the priority for me now is of course to bring Dolphin and Okular back in business. For sure I know that using foreign packages can be cause of trouble, but since we have been using them for years (since Easy Buster) now and since they used to work perfectly on 6.1, I'm just asking if there were changes to the system which may have hindered the correct execution of KDE apps. If we do not manage to solve this we could always downgrade and go back to the 6.1. Still investigating this.

Thanks in advance

If you want system-wide read-write access, you can run it as the root user; run "dolphin.bin" either from terminal or edit /usr/share/applications/dolphin.desktop (and reload jwm menu "jwm -reload").

I will add Dolphin permanently in Flapi, for the next release of EasyOS.

The flatpak from Flathub had 2 problems: it couldn't access NTFS partitions and above all it could neither know the available applications on the system nor associate them to specific file extensions. Will try this new flatpak from apps.kde.org. Regarding the browser I see that some file permissions have changed. Now there is this "Linux User" belonging to the "ftp" group, maybe that's the reason why some data got deleted / removed?

Got my extensions back. Will move them to /opt or /files/other.
Regarding Dolphin and Okular I see that these new flatpaks are somehow better and now they can also access mounted ntfs partitions. However, they still can't manage applications and file associations (no open with option) and Dolphin even looks like not showing all data (for example on /usr/share/icons). Anyway, we'll see if I can find a solution for this or we can adapt to use these flatpaks for the moment. Maybe some other KDE packages must be installed in order for Kio to work.

Yes, it cannot see contents in a mounted ntfs partition. Same for mounting anything.

However, if mount the ntfs partition before start dolphin, then can see the contents.

It looks like dolphin requires udisks package and communicates via dbus to discover mounted partitions. Will investigate.

I have created a custom entry for KTorrent in Flapi.
Starts OK, don't know if it actually works.
Will also put this permanently into Flapi.

To create a custom entry, create /usr/local/flatpak/custom/ktorrent, with this in it:

Code: Select all

cCATEGORY='system'
cURL='https://apps.kde.org/ktorrent/'
cTRIPLET='org.kde.ktorrent'
cAPPname='KTorrent'
cAPPdesc='KDE BitTorrent client'

Then start Flapi.

Dolphin requires "udisks2" package and its dependencies, from PKGget.

I started "dolphin.bin" and now dolphin sees all the partitions, click on one and it mounts.

However, dolphin is doing something stupid.
I clicked on a ext4 partition, and "mount" shows it has mounted:

/dev/nvme1n1p2 on /tmp/run/media/root/D0B46493B4647E3A type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,default_permissions,allow_other,blksize=4096)
/dev/sda6 on /tmp/run/media/root/hdd48gb3 type ext4 (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,errors=remount-ro)

And rox can confirm the contents are available. However, dolphin says:

"The file or folder /tmp/run/media/root/D0B46493B4647E3A does not exist"

Huh???
Dolphin has mounted it, then says it doesn't exist!

Hmmm, dolphin reports /tmp is empty!!!

Issues since update to version 6.1.1

@ Barry K

Alright, I've solved the problem. I've found the cause of it. This might be interesting. The issue with the package Kio (that means KDE Input Output) not working / loading is caused by the devx_6.1.1_amd64.sfs sfs package.
When it's set to automatically load itself on the main level for some reason the Kio package does not work and therefore Dolphin and Okular cannot work.
Removing it from the list of automatic loaded sfs packages (by using Menu --> Filesystem --> Simple boot process configuration --> load extra SFS files) solves the problem.
This is NOT due to the 6.1.1 update, since this also happens on v 6.1 in case the corresponding devx_6.1_amd64.sfs is loaded. Interestingly, the loading of the kernel source and Nvidia driver sfs packages does not seem to have any consequences, cause any issue. So it looks like for some reason only the devx sfs package causes strange phaenomena / interactions with the files added by the installation of foreign packages. Hope this can be useful, even though I know that the system is not meant to have foreign packages installed on.

HI all, still here, beware, newbie. 6.1.1 install is the first time update found the already downloaded image and delta in mnt/wkg and didn't download again.
On file systems.- I mentioned Spacefm and am ashamed to show my face. I got serious about Easy system and Rox and spent 2 weeks exploring and trying things out.
I'm hooked on Rox for easy. Apologies to Barry. Still finding my way around the forum. Slowly a map is forming. Fredrico mentioned about ungoogled chromium etc. I downloaded a couple from menu too that dissapeared.
With Limine i had varying success . Now i have easy as primary on Zotec 4g ram, 64 gb emmc. I have 2 mini pc's with 2 ext HD's and various usb's. Zotec's are mdos 32. Only way Zotec could see easy to install was Legacy so I can't install Limine.
My pc's a mess- have 3 different tittles for each os showing up. Presently browsing to learn editing grub menu's etc.
I like Limine and really like that mainstream can't recognize it. Like Bootrepair returns -Does Not Compute.
A techie once told me that Linux doesn't need a bios. Any way of putting a floor over it or something? Put everything above it in some type of container?
I absolutely love Easy.

I've ran into a problem. Love the OS BTW.

I've done extensive modifications to Easy. Most done through the package manager, but some apps I installed via the command 'flatpak install' I obtained from the Flathub website. At some point the volume control icon no longer shows in the tray. The script that executes it is still in the startup folder and if I click it it executes and shows in the tray. Could it be that the delay to launch is to brief?
