Do you have 32 bit libs sfs loaded? I installed li gtk3, but I still continue to get the same error. Do you tried booting in a fresh pupsave booting with pfix=ram?
libgtk-3-0_3.10.8-0ubuntu1.4_amd64.deb
no 32 bit sfs loaded, and i believe the gtk3 package i installed is the tahr era 64 bit deb linked above.
newer packages exist, and i think i did use a 32 bit precise version in a 64 bit tahr at one point (maybe with the 32 bit sfs loaded, but i seem to recall the older packages being no arch back then, or the older, still accessible versions were (and believed i used one with my xenial installation until i began poking around in the set up folders i had for the installation--seems pretty clear that my memory is wrong and the tahr package is what i used based on what i found)).
if you want to try out some other versions, i came up drier at packages.ubuntu than i was expecting, but https://pkgs.org/download/libgtk-3-0 has a bunch.

(and if it doesn't help, did you have any success with your earlier vlc solution? does messing with the audio player config files affect libreoffice in your setup?)
thanks for the feedback, Dingo, and sorry for the delayed response.
