I red your warning about non-usr-merge folders , but wont pretend i understand it all !!!

usr-merge is actually very simple. If you bootup 5.5.1, you will see that now /bin, /sbin, /lib and /usr/sbin are all symlinks. All the files have got consolidated into /usr/lib and /usr/bin

Everything should just work as before, but there have been some issues when updating from the non-usr-merge save-folder. At the update, everything got moved into /usr/lib and /usr/bin, and a couple of things went wrong.

Hey, you're right, it isn't there!
It is in the menu, under Desktop category, but the 'xclipboard' binary is missing.
I'll chase that one up.

NOTICE!!!

I have just realized something.

A couple of days ago, I updated the online "oe-kirkstone" packages, now the "r4" build in OpenEmbedded.
If running Easy prior to 5.5, none of those packages will work.

Firstly, in PKGget, you have to hit the "Configure" button and update the database.
Then you will be able to install packages.

To make them work, do this in a terminal:

Code: Select all

# ln -s /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 /usr/lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2

Note, I have done a lot of overhauling to PKGget, but that is in Easy 5.5+

Trying to ''convert'' chrome.sfs to usr-merge thing, trying to mimic your chromium 114 , hmmm ,it doesnt do it .
As much as i dont worries gg paying their development selling whatever to whom could be willing to know my you2b viewing histories,...which is not average ,i do wonder where the hell they ''classed'' linux ,non cell phone ,no Meta's users like me!!!! i guess there are buyers for off-average-wire/phone data !!!
But i do use GG-Chrome , by the way ,as much as i avoid flatpak ,i have tried , 5.5.1 wont let me try Chrome flatpack ''fashion'' either !!?!!
in 5.4.10 ,i did catched an chrome sfs was installed and gave the warning about it .
So back in 5.4.10..
Did a fresh install of 5.5.1 it all went ok ,very basic tests ,no even your latest

BarryK wrote: Sat Sep 16, 2023 12:51 am

PKGget, you have to hit the "Configure"

.
+note : realized in 5.4.?? i had more oldies pet installed , packit 1.22 ,right-click 6.7.7 + uextract 4.7 !!!!
they do (witch one ? i'll check ) gave me plenty of right -click choices without one tweek ,ootb .

Hello,

I just installed Easy OS 5.5.1 and noticed the "Download latest Firefox" doesn't work is that a temporary thing.

I had Firefox on Easy OS 5.4.10 but when I ran the upgrade it didn't turn out very well so I wound up installing Easy OS 5.5.1 as a frugal install onto a USB flash drive.

Wished I'd have read the warnings on the forum about upgrading but I didn't and that's my own fault.

Thanks. :)

If the upgrade to 5.5.1 didn't go well, you can roll back to 5.4.10, see instructions here:

https://bkhome.org/news/202309/aborted- ... on-55.html

I do intend to do some more update testing, hopefully fix the issues.

I will investigate what has gone wrong with installing Firefox.

Hello,

Yes I've thought about reinstalling 5.4.10 and may do so.

The 5.5.1 install works well so may just stay with it for now.

Thanks. :)

I'm running 5.5.1, tested download of Firefox. It was a new install, not an update of Firefox.

To see exactly what is happening, I ran the d/l script in a terminal. This will do exactly as if had done it via the menu. First window:

The terminal shows d/l is happening:

Final window:

I ran "firefox" in the terminal and it works ok. Tested run from menu, also ok.

Back in 5.4,10 , somehow ,uninstalling in 5.5.1 chrome flatpak got error trying to reinstall it ,syncing time tweak not working here!
and a quick sfs of flatpak test in sfs was worthless ,may have break something even if i've been careful when testing ''flatpak-to-what-i tried-chrome-quick-lets try this.sfs''!
Note; uninstalling flatpak i've once tried did let me ,in 5.4?? , reinstall without problem , in 5.5.1 chrome flatpak app folder seem to have been somehow ''disturbed'' !!
well ,got the exact same problem when i've first tried in 5.5.1 to install gg-chr flatpak ...
Seem that back in 5.4.10 ,i could reinstalling chrome flatpak ,i wont...
flat for me mean thin ,inflatedpak would have fit more that future way of pkg distribution ,imho... : )
But it shure worked before uninstalling it .

Hello,

I just installed Easy OS 5.5.1 and noticed the "Download latest Firefox" doesn't work is that a temporary thing.

I just tested with my fresh install of 5.5.1. I have the same message (in french) as in the picture in the previous post.

It's a certificate problem with download.mozilla.org :

File /tmp/dfl-ff-latest-spider.log

EDIT : I just tested wget -4 --spider 'https://download.mozilla.org/?product=f ... lang=en-US' on Easy 5.4.10, there is no error message
EDIT2: retry on Easy 5.5.1, same certificate problem. The download link works on Chrome. Return to 5.4.10 and retry with wget and again no error

EDIT3: In Easy 5.5.1 /etc/ssl/certs is empty

EDIT3: In Easy 5.5.1 /etc/ssl/certs is empty

My 5.5.1 is an update, not a new installation, and /etc/ssl/certs is fully occupied.

Question to both of you: are you testing a new install of 5.5.1?

Here is how to populate /etc/ssl/certs in a terminal:

Code: Select all

# update-ca-certificates
Updating certificates in /etc/ssl/certs...
0 added, 0 removed; done.
Running hooks in /etc/ca-certificates/update.d...
done.
#

That 'update-ca-certificates' gets run in woofQ when building 'easy.sfs', and looking at
/mnt/.easy_ro/easy_sfs/etc/ssl
...it is empty!

Hmmm, ok, I'm onto it.
