@Caramel , @BarryK
While doing some more testing I ran into this problem:

Code: Select all

find: ‘/home/vivaldi/.cache/doc’: Permission denied
find: ‘/sys/firmware/acpi/tables’: Input/output error
/usr/bin/filemnt: Zeile 109: losetup-FULL: Kommando nicht gefunden.
stat: der Aufruf von statx für '' ist fehlgeschlagen: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/filemnt: Zeile 175: losetup-FULL: Kommando nicht gefunden.

filemnt refers to losetup-FULL, but it does not exist.

Code: Select all

find: ‘/home/vivaldi/.cache/doc’: Permission denied

It seems normal.
See viewtopic.php?p=97154

Code: Select all

find: ‘/sys/firmware/acpi/tables’: Input/output error

No apparent error for me. Could you share the exact command you use?

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/filemnt: Zeile 109: losetup-FULL: Kommando nicht gefunden.
stat: der Aufruf von statx für '' ist fehlgeschlagen: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/filemnt: Zeile 175: losetup-FULL: Kommando nicht gefunden.

You found a bug

In old EasyOS versions, losetup was a symlink to busybox and losetup-FULL the real command. Now losetup is the real command.

So just type

Code: Select all

ln -s /usr/bin/losetup /usr/bin/losetup-FULL

to create a symlink losetup-FULL to losetup

The download of https://slackers.it/repository/slackwar ... 64-1cf.txz fails in Firefox. No problem with Firefox in Easy 5.8.3.

No problem with others downloads like ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/pool/main/d/detox/detox_1.4.5-4_amd64.deb

NB: the protection against malwares in settings is desactived

EDIT : no problem with chromium

EDIT 2 : fail too with https://github.com/38fd945d-5d71-46f0-accb-da5a42c5635f (file libx32.txz)

I installed the English version and changed keyboard and country to German.
The next step was the attempt to start Chromium. It failed, so I decided to install Vivaldi.

I have also looked at /var/log/Xorg.0.log and found that Scarthgap and Kirkstone identify my graphic card differently.
Kirkstone see it as a i965 and Scarthgap as crocus. Any idea why?

I also learned about what Scarth Gap means and the story of A. Wainwright :-)

Very interesting

...kind of makes the wallpaper appropriate!

How do you choose/pick the names of your releases.

I just use the names of the OpenEmbedded/Yocto releases.
Scarthgap, Kirkstone, Pyro, etc.

Possible error at Scarthgat 6.0

Post by pp4mnklinux »

I don't know if it was my fault.-

I decided to try shutdown, restart lookdown in RAM, copy session to ram and unmount all partitions (WITHOUT SELECTING MAKE IT PERMANENT).

I restarted and easy indicates me that it is working in RAM, no problem, so I restarted again to go back to previous disposition, but...

.... NO, now the partition icons don't show the disk sda and the USB.

Y restarted with normal boot, but I cant make this partitions appears again.

Is there any way to make them appears again??

Thanks a lot.

xerrs.log_2.gz

Your attached xerrs.log has exposed a very old bug, a syntax error.
For example, /root/.pup_event/sdb/AppInfo.xml has two "

"

That syntax error has been around forever. Now fixed in file /usr/local/pup_event/frontend_funcs

Regarding crocus, that replaces i965.
The mesa package has dropped i965 and crocus driver now handles intel gpu with crocus driver.

It may be that crocus does not work with very old intel graphics cards, which was why I delayed updating mesa in kirkstone.
But so far ok.

I booted 6.0 with de locale, installed firefox via "Download latest Firefox"
Made no changes to firefox setup.
Pasted that link into the url-bar and it downloaded, no problem.

Problem with failed download

Post by Caramel »

Fresh installs of easyOS 6, one in French and one in German(after a start in English to comment #export LANG=C in clean_desk_icons)

No problem with Firefox until now.
(In the previous installation the group owner of /files became root. Maybe too many boots with alternations of locale ?)

EDIT: new failure of a download with Firefox. (Easy with French language)
The group owner of /files is still filesgrp but that of /files/download is now root

EDIT : I changed the group owner to filesgrp.
The group owner change again into root when I extract the contents of detox-2.0.0-x86_64-1cf.txz with XArchive.
The owner of this file are firefox and filesgrp. The file was downloaded before by Firefox.

EDIT3 I changed the locale to en_US, restart X. New test and again the extraction of the detox archive in /files/download changed the group owner into root.

EDIT 4 It's the same thing in Easy 5.8.3
It seems it's a normal behavior of XArchive if / is in the archive with root as group owner. There should be something that prevents XArchive from changing pre-existing rights.

@BarryK I just downloaded and booted up 6.0. I downloaded Firefox using the menu and it downloads and installs but doesn't create a menu entry (it looks like no desktop file installs). The Chrome script works great. I see I need to modify some of my scripts that use "pidof -x" because the busybox version here doesn't have the x option but I'm sure I can figure something out. My only other issue is the version of ffmpeg doesn't have libpulse enabled and not sure why because libpulse is installed. Screen capturing with audio using ffmpeg requires that libpulse be enabled when running pulseaudio. I've compiled the latest ffmpeg release 7.0.1 with all of the options the same but added libpulse and will post it below. Thanks for all your efforts, I really like this release.

This is a difficult one. The problem will occur with any browser running non-root, such as the pups running a browser as spot.

Possibly a solution will be to edit the scripts in /usr/lib/xarchive/wrappers
We could look into that; however, as I want to get 6.0.1 out very soon, have just done a quick fix, put code into the init script in the initrd to check that folders files and downloads are group filesgrp.
Not perfect, because only takes effect after a reboot.

Personally, I don't expand any archive file in /files/downloads. Move the file elsewhere.
That's why I never encountered that problem.

Yes, the missing menu is documented here:

https://bkhome.org/news/202406/more-bug ... os-60.html

Fixed in next release.
However, you can fix it now. Copy /usr/share/applications.in/firefox.desktop to /usr/share/applications
Then in a terminal:

Code: Select all

# fixmenus
# jwm -reload

ffmpeg, that's odd. Will check it out.

Potential problem for non-english language ?

Post by Caramel »

Caramel wrote: Fri Jun 21, 2024 7:34 am

The problem comes from the command rev when LANG=C. In this case, rev only recognizes the C characters.

With a character like ö or ß rev freezes in EasyOS 6 hence clean_desk_icons do not stop and x do not start.

The outputs of

Code: Select all

grep -rnw "LANG=C" /usr/local

and

Code: Select all

grep -rnw " rev " /usr/local

have many common files where the text "LANG=C" and the command rev are present.

Of course the 2 expressions in the same file do not necessarily imply a problem but it is not impossible that there is one (And it was a search only in /usr/local)

Maybe is it possible to use the rev executable from Kirkstone ou replace rev by a wrapper that stop after some time and
send a error code ?

I know it must be work but to control each script is also a long work.

Have to stay with 6.1.1.
I have recompiled it in OpenEmbedded, added pulseaudio dependency.

Thanks for reporting that, the fixed ffmpeg will be in the next release, probably upload tomorrow.

Yeah.
If there are any problems, they have been around for awhile, and don't seem to have caused any serious issues.
So will put that down to investigate in the future.

Is it possible to suspend EASY OS to RAM?

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello everybody:

-----------------------edited--------------------------

Partially solved at.- viewtopic.php?t=11939

---------------------------------------------------------

I hope this is the appropriate place to ask this question, if not, excuse me and post it at the appropriate place.

For one of my computers, the one I have EasyOs installed, is important suspend the computer instead of turn it off (The power button gives me errors), so...

Is it possible suspend to ram Easy Os instead of shut it down?

(I tried installing PupShutDown, but the suspend option doesn't appears)

Thanks a lot for your help, have a nice day.

Updated, rolling & rocking...french here
once i got xvkbd ,hmm , to print é ... oops i've lost À case letters , oh , and the è wont go to ,
weird , oh , the lower case À print À .
Note: I did remove 3.8 and install xvkbd 4.1 with my slightly change french layout , but before that ,
the french keyboard(as in kirkstone) showed the belgium layout ....

Definitely weird.
cannot pinpoint what is going on , i did managed to get it right in kirkstone .

Maybe is it possible to use the rev executable from Kirkstone ou replace rev by a wrapper that stop after some time and
send a error code ?

The script below is a wrapper for rev

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

ps | grep $PPID | grep -v grep > /tmp/rev-debug

kill-process() {
	sleep 10
	ps -af | grep rev-real | grep $$ | grep -v grep > /tmp/rev-debug2
	awk '{ print $2 }' /tmp/rev-debug2 > /tmp/rev-debug3
	pid_rev_real=$(cat /tmp/rev-debug3)
        if [[ -n $pid_rev_real ]]; then
	  kill $pid_rev_real
	  cat /tmp/rev-debug >> /root/rev-debug
	fi
}

kill-process &
pid_kill=$!
/usr/bin/rev-real
kill $pid_kill
exit

If the command rev do not stop, this script stops it after 10 secondes and write the name of the process that launched rev in a file /root/rev-debug

In Easy 6.0.2 I renamed the executable /usr/bin/rev in rev-real and aded this script, named rev, in /usr/bin

I also made a second installation without the script to compare in case of problem

Until now, as expected, no result and also no broken system by the script !

Yep I've updated 6.0 to 6.0.2 all went well and all that I use works well.

The only injury I had after the update was I lost my Firefox desktop icon.

Went to user, share, applications dragged and dropped another to the desktop.

I still dislike the newfangled spell checker in Chromium which takes you to a web page for the word you're correcting and now sometimes removes the word.

I may remove Chromium browser and stay with Firefox.

Other than that all appears to be well so we're happy.

Thanks Barry K. :thumbup2:

Re: EasyOS Scarthgap-series version 6.0.2

Hello everybody:

This is a very SPECIFIC problem, so I thought a lot before posting it, but finally I decided to write it just in case it has an easy solution, but don't waste time with it, because I can solve using other browsers when I need to write this characters.

Recently I needed to translate some texts to SPANISH and I found that with slimjet (v39 and v43 portable) I can't write some of them.

Those characters are:

"accent mark" = camión (the sign on O), plátano (the sing on the first A), estúpido (U sign)

The combination alt Gr + ñ - To write this symbol ~ (I can write it using alt Gr + 4)

I can use this signs with firefox, chromium, libre office...... all easyos 6-02 software, except with SLIMJET)

N.b.-

I go back to easyos 6.0 to see if it happens too, and YES, it's impossible to write those characters directly in Slimjet)

N.B.-

I'm using a portable version of slimjet, so I started a puppy distribution (f96ce_xfce_fusilli) and I started Slimjet (the same soft) and I could write these without problem, so It happens only in easyos)

As I said, if there is a simple and easy solution, ok, but if not... there is NO necessity to use your time solving this personal problem)

Have a nice day.

@ Barry K, Caramel, Feodorf

Hello,
so, I updated Scarthgap to version 6.0.2 through the update script and the update went well. I noticed that the clean_desk_icons script on /sbin has been updated and is now significally more compact. The line which sets the locale has been totally removed, but, as confirmed by the shell:

Code: Select all

# echo $LANG
de_DE.UTF-8
#

the locale is anyway correctly set within the system. No more issues with the X server, at all.

Just to ascertain that everything is OK I also reformatted the stick and installed Scarthgap 6.0.2 on it from scratch. After setting the locale to german at first boot and saving the session 5 times, no issues with X server.
So I'm glad to confirm that the problematic has been solved, at least regarding the german locale.
I will also report about the italian locale in short.

Kind regards.

How did you set the locale of your system?

Check with:

Code: Select all

echo $LANG

to check available locales:

Code: Select all

# locale -a

to set your locale you can go to Menu --> Configuration --> Easy Setup --> System --> Locale
or execute:

Code: Select all

export LANG=es_XX

where XX is your particular spanish language. Basically, you can only type your particular language characters on the shell if the correct locale has been set for them.

How to mount partitions at startup? HELP needed

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello everybody

For sure most of you have different partitions or disks in your computer.

After booting is really easy to mount them, but I need to mount automatically some of them when I start Easy Os.

In puppy, you have the options at pmount of mount automatically disk at startup, but I cant find this option in Easy Os.

Can you help me and tell me if there is anyway to do this automatically when booting your system.

Thanks a lot in advance.

@pp4mnklinux, you can do it in /etc/rc.d/rc.local.
Edit the file to insert manual mount command like this:

Code: Select all

mkdir -p /mnt/sdc3
mount /dev/sdc3 /mnt/sdc3
