How do I install emojis and JPN characters? (Raspup 8.2.1) (Solved)

Post by r96chase »

Long story short, I'm using a Raspberry Pi as a desktop, but it's still missing some features.

On certain sites, Japanese characters are missing. They show up as little squares. Same with emojis (unless if you're on Twitter of course). Anyway, I wondering if there is any way to restore emojis and Japanese characters and stuff like that. Is there anything in the PPM by any chance?

Note: I noticed this while on browser Discord (y'know...because iirc Discord doesn't have a desktop version for anything ARM).

You mean on certain sites they are displayed as squares and on other sites they are correctly displayed? Example please.
Otherwise it's just a matter of installing a Japanese font. Same with Emojis. They are already supported in newer versions of DejaVu Sans. For fancier stuff you'll need to install a dedicated emoji font.

@MochiMoppel Well, I mean...which Japanese font do I install? That's what I'm asking, but I might know the emoji font stuff. Thanks for the advice.

That's a matter of taste. Choose whatever font you like, there are many free fonts available for download. Any OTF or TTF font should do.

Never mind. I just chose one. Sometimes I just gotta do it somewhat blind. Sorry about that. Really.

Anyway, I guess this issue is solved now. Thanks.
