How can I prevent my keyboard settings from resetting to default?

Post by Governor »

I am running Puppy in RAM only mode.

I disconnect my USB peripherals at night after unmounting the external drives (I do not have the default keyboard). In the morning when I plug in my USB devices, the specific setting for my USB keyboard has vanished. I have not changed the setting, and when I open the keyboard wizard, the setting shows the correct setting for my keyboard as I had previously selected. I click Ok, and my setting is restored.

Does anyone have a fix for this so my keyboard setting does not disappear?

Thanks!

If you operate in RAM mode , your settings won't be saved. To save any changes you will need to use a save file/folder or use another saving mechanism (like saving your changes to an adrv).

I don't understand. The computer has not been turned off, and I have not used Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. Everything on the screen is as it was before. The software setting has not been changed by me. Why would my keyboard setting disappear, also when it shows correctly in the keyboard wizard?

Thanks!

Restart xserver and see if that solves your issue. The disconnecting and reconnecting of the usb hardware can be the issue.

You mean like Cntrl+Alt+Backspace?
Won't that lose several of my settings since I am running RAM only Puppy?

Thanks!

I had reservations about using that command. It turns out I was right. I lost my configuration settings and was faced with the startup configuration screen. I chose my stand alone monitor in the multi monitor section, chose primary, and then clicked on Apply. Then both my laptop screen and monitor went blank. I had to hold down the power button and reboot. My Palemoon is not portable, so I lost my settings, history and bookmarks there. Luckily, I have Firefox portable, but I had to re-install all of my plugins for some reason(!).

Thanks!

boot with a USB install and see if you can make a save to the USB that persists.
