In terms of the electronics/physics, the speed that such technology can work at nowadays is astounding. When I worked professionally as an electronics engineer I remember how much trouble we had with overshoot and ringing, when designing/developing circuits that used but tens of MHz signalling... effects of stray capacitance/inductance and so on. The interfaces/connection-cable designs of today would have been beyond the most optimistic of imaginations.
