Avidemux work but without sound (on bionicpup)

Post by kyou »

Hello everybody,
here I am again with another question.
I apologize in advance but I am really impractical and for me this is a whole new world.

then, i installed avidemux version 2.7.3- qt5- i686. pet

the program works, but without sound. I wanted to know if this version is not compatible with bionic or I have to do some settings myself.

on the version I downloaded and installed of avidemux it says it was for linux slacko, but I only found the 32 bit one.
May be this the problem?

do you have any suggestions to solve the problem?

thank you all and have a nice weekend

It may help if you go into the Preferences (Edit > Preferences > tab 'Audio') and set it to Alsa.

Is this version I have suitable for bionicpup32?

I ask this, because unfortunately there is still something wrong.

the program opens, loads the video, I press "play" and it starts playing, but pressing "stop" it stops and then I no longer have the possibility to restart it.

the "play" symbol no longer comes out as if the program were to be blocked.

I can't even close the program. to close I have to use the "task manager"

i know avidemux as i used it with xp, but i never had these problems

do you have any suggestions for solving.
thank you

Unfortunately this seems to apply to 32 bit Bionic. The solution does not work for 64 bit Bionic's Avidemux 2.7.1-x64 .pet because the Alsa options are not present in the dropdown menu.

The only choices are: PulseAudioS, Dummy and OSS .

Hi vtpup,

You might want to try Mikewalsh's 2.7.6 portable, viewtopic.php?p=49143&sid=fd4b82712020b ... 509#p49143. I'm not running Bionicpup64 just now. But it renders sound under Fossapup64 and according to T'other Mike it works under any Puppy since Tahrpup64.

Nope, it doesn't render sound under the original Bionicpup64. But see my reply on the Avidemux thread. https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 264#p97264

Thanks Mike, I did try Mike Walsh's executable, and as we discussed there, Mike gave a couple of easy tips for getting that to work on Bionic64 with sound, and with the screen properly positioned.

As a follow-up I wondered if the workaround of using OSS as the sound device would work with 64 bit Puppy's Bionic's Avidemux 2.7.1-x64 .pet, mentioned in this thread above. So I downloaded a fresh copy, and well, yes it does :thumbup2:

So, to any Bionicpup64 users, to get sound to work with the standard Puppy Avidemux .pet, simply change the sound device choice from the default PulseAudioS to OSS. In other words, in Avidemux go to Edit>Preferences>Audio and then select OSS from the drop-down list.

Sound should now work, even though Alsa isn't shown as one of the drop down choices.

@vtpup
you could try avidemux 2.7.0 or 2.8.0 from here
Compiled in Slacko64 7.0 but schould work in Bionic64 too.
Sound is working without problems.
Other features not extensively tested (in Bionic64).

Thanks kindly Norgo!

While we did get all of the above Avidemux 64 program versions working with OSS as audio device, I thought I'd give your Avidemux version 2.8 a try, since it is more recent than the others.

Well, it ran perfectly out of the box with sound. I also noticed that your version provided, besides OSS, three ALSA devices to choose from. :thumbup2:

To see if there was any difference, I did a little cusrory video editing, and yes there was a difference. The OSS device did not reduce the audio volume of a video when you moved the slider, while the AlsaHw0 device choice did perform properly. Therefore the OSS choice doesn't work for some audio controls. And in prior testing with both the 2.7x versions (.pet, and executable) OSS also failed to adjust volume via the slider.

Therefore, I'm going with your 2.8 Avidemux version, and using AlsaHw0 as the chosen device.

Thanks again for providing yet another option for Puppy users!
