As cyclist, I find the use of rometorio.com to plan trips in Europe extremely difficult because the control if bicycle are allow.

This check does Rome2Rio not for us, and you have to commute a lot of time to clear the question on the site of the concerned companies.

And the difficulty happens because of the extreme use of graphic taking place on the screen although only a few data are on each screen, so you can not good open an adequate quantity of page with each ONE unique goal (as the overview if cycle allow and condition are not taken in consideration, you must divide the trip into single part and look for each, conditions (size etc. like obligation of reservation) and costs. If no absurd graphic would be on the page, you probably would can shrink a lot the size of each single window...

That problem ca also exist for different other analog searches

An idea if such a browser (somewhat like ¨links" or elinks or eventually links2 (did) exist (a extreme old version of links did effective exist with some kind of java but I did never find sources or binaries!)

I've tried several terminal-based browsers and find links2 the best for my usage (current Ubuntu Jammy repos certain have it), but you should start it with the command:

links2 -g

which lets it display images (doesn't seem to even start in xfce4-terminal without that -g). I have read that actual terminal like xterm (colour) is needed for some text browsers if images required, but xfce4-terminal with links2 -g command worked fine, at least to start it, for me.

Then press G key (say), if url entry line not visible.

Now, where it gets particularly useful is if you want to read stories of the likes of:

Links2 lack of sophistication means it bypasses the javascript subscription checks... so you can read whatever you want!

I first try in my main browser, like Firefox or Chromium, and if it wants subscription password I just then copy the link into the likes of links2 -g to continue reading full article; disclaimer: not my fault that works... JavaScript doesn't execute in a terminal browser either, meaning that soft paywalls, such as the one on NYT, don't trigger. You can read as many articles as you want without interruptions.

Some text browsers, by the way, need you to press Shift-Ctrl-V to paste info in (links2 -g works for me with just Ctrl-V)

Clicking mouse near top of links2 window brings up the Menu.

@wiak Wow that trick with Links2 is fantastic! Always a hassle reading New York Times articles with the subscription wall....but cut right through that problem.......nice

Netsurf gtk version is good too. Feels like an early browser when javascript and css just started to be a thing.

Netsurf frame buffer has never worked in Debian Dog, but it would be cool if it did.

You can use NewsWaffle (gemini://gemi.dev/cgi-bin/waffle.cgi/) or a web->Gemini proxy to read news. The fediverse has many bots that pull news from news sites, and I follow some via gemini://hd.206267.xyz/.
