This summary is provided here in the hope it will be easier to find, if by no one else at least me as I keep forgetting it. 
Change the 'gtk-theme' used by Puppy. peppyy --and later, I -- installed the vicmz' theme collection from, https://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/p ... 121106.pet then selected stardust from among that collection.
IIRC, it wasn't even necessary to re-start Palemoon. But, of course, it will be necessary to execute a Save to preserve that theme collection among Puppy's arsenal.
Please post any other usable gtk-themes you uncover. At least on my system stardust's black text against light grey background is readable, but not exciting.
