@rockedge the easiest way is to add this to the forum stylesheet:

Code: Select all

dd.profile-posts {
	display: none;
}

Or everybody can make it locally.

1. Make file userContent.css and add this to it:

Code: Select all

@-moz-document domain(forum.puppylinux.com) {
	dd.profile-posts {
		display: none;
	}
}

2. In your Firefox profile (and other browsers too?) make chrome directory and copy above file there.
3. Then go into Firefox's about:settings and in the key toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets replace the value false with true.
4. Restart Firefox and Thanks feature will gone.

Now we have no 'scoreboard' anymore !
Better without it IMO, and still we are able to give a Thanks to anyone, very good!

I use the Thank feature also to mark a post so I can return to it.

Maybe there is extension for this?

The Thanks function should work the same way as before just no scoreboard enabled.

Seems to be okay so far.........

@ All

So my understanding is:

If you want to say thank you to @ whoever you just add a :thumbup: or :thumbup2: when you reply to @ whoever -

Examples:

@ whoever :thumbup:

OR -

@ whoever

Thank you for your help :thumbup:

Am I correct? -

Best regards

Gotcha, the penny has droped at last :idea:, thanks for having patience with me -

When logged in can see and use it, can't see or use it when on a Forum page or POST A REPLY page -

Don't have to make a post to use it after logging in -

So, used it, hope you got it -

And thanks @ rockedge as well for the alternative route -

It is rather annoying as I have used it on many occasions -

Don't get old my friend, it does strange things to you, or me at least -

@rockedge
I am now confused by what has happened to the forum based on this thread. As far as I can see the post count is still in place and the little "thumbs up" box that allowed you to thank a fellow forum member is still in place and would appear to be working but the "thanked" and "been thanked" counts have disappeared. If this is the case then I see no point in thanking a forum member if they cannot see that they have been thanked or more to the point how many times they have been thanked. I also find these counts useful. I would therefore like to suggest that the forum be returned to the state it was in before this thread was stated. If the reason for removing the "thanked" and "been thanked" counts is because it is thought that it implies some kind of hierarchy then perhaps for consistency we should remove all such hierarchies. This would include special colours used for the names of moderators or the site administrator herself/himself or indeed remove nomenclature like moderator or site administrator altogether.
I make the suggestion shown above in italics in a tongue in cheek manner but I think it does illustrate how ridiculous this can become.
Please return the forum to it's as was condition.

Regards,

Ken.

By the way, yes. Then remove the colors at once, sooner or later someone will demand it anyway.

I see no point in thanking a forum member if they cannot see that they have been thanked

this is not a true statement and is most certainly visible on the individual post that has been thanked. Also a notification is sent to the post author who is being thanked.

Then remove the colors at once, sooner or later someone will demand it anyway.

No. :thumbup2:

I may or may not enable the feature completely again. Just this thread confuses me. The amount of time I've spent on this frivolous non-problem has already cut into my time enough as it is. Yo-yo-ing back and forth whether on or off and somebody worrying about some meaningless list is a buzz kill.

@rocketge, I think you changed the forum based on a simple user oppinion, and ..Has it got any special advantage , objective advantage?

Other can ask you about change the default font used when postín, or allow users to be capable of delete a post that had been answered (you can't do it now).

Thanks for your time, but I consider interesting and useful this given info, so please, include it again.

I have to agree. The whole thread subject is a non-item anyway.

I took very little notice of it, TBH, but I can perhaps see that some - the 'socialist' types, I suppose - might see it as indicative of a hierarchy. Those sorts of people believe that everybody should be seen as JUST a person, and that achievements, contributions, etc, should never be mentioned because in this way, everybody is regarded as equal.

Such thinking seems very important to such individuals. Yet even in an "equal" society, somebody has to do the 'behind-the-scenes' drudge work to keep everything running smoothly. Shouldn't those who perform this 'drudge' work be entitled to some kind of recognition for their efforts?

Interesting how this whole thing has been sparked off by a brand-new member, who has barely yet begun to participate. And it surprises me how rapidly certain community members have "jumped" on it....

Must be a slow weekend..! :lol:

Very odd, indeed. (*sigh...*) How does the old saying go? "Little things please little minds", or something similar, hmm?

Mike. ;)

@rockedge
I feel my previous post to you may not have been clear. My suggestion

then perhaps for consistency we should remove all such hierarchies. This would include special colours used for the names of moderators or the site administrator herself/himself or indeed remove nomenclature like moderator or site administrator altogether.

was not meant seriously but instead to illustrate how ridiculous all of this has just become.

The amount of time I've spent on this frivolous non-problem has already cut into my time enough as it is. Yo-yo-ing back and forth whether on or off and somebody worrying about some meaningless list is a buzz kill.

I think I made it clear that I was not in favour of any of these changes therefor I did not want to involve you in the time it took you to make the changes. The request for these changes was down to others.

this is not a true statement and is most certainly visible on the individual post that has been thanked. Also a notification is sent to the post author who is being thanked.

I've now been thanked a number of times since the changes have been made and can see that it largely works as before but with out the "count" being displayed. I have noticed one thing and that is that when you click on the "thanked" message it does not take me to the post. I think it did do this previously. I'd be interested to know if anybody else has noticed this. I still hold the view that it would be better to go back to what was in place before this thread appeared but if this would involve you in much more time and effort then it's perhaps not worth the hassle. I do not wish to add to your workload.

Regards,

Ken.

Edit:

I have noticed one thing and that is that when you click on the "thanked" message it does not take me to the post.

Using @puppy_apprentice's post I'm able to confirm that this is in fact working.

Each notification sends me to the corresponding post.
But if you click the "V" area, it marks the notification as read and do not send you to the post.

Whilst I realise the following statement was indeed very

"tongue-in-cheek"

.....then for the sake of satisfying those who hate hierarchies of ANY kind, why not take it to the next level? Remove post counts, even member names, and just turn the entire forum into a single, generalized anonymous rambling discussion? I'm sure some here would be very happy with that..!! :roll:

(Here's an even more radical thought. Why not just get rid of the Forum completely, hmm? That way, no community member would need to "worry" themselves about ANYTHING, ever again...) :evil: :D

Kind of a carbon currency or a Chinese social credits.
Can I opt out of having those "thanked" currencies displayed?

I think superhik had in mind the situation that prevails in China. The Chinese government, through apps, evaluates and collects data on citizens and assesses their usefulness.

He didn't have a socialist revolution in mind. Or the demolition of the hierarchical world order.

I think there was no danger from Thanks on our forum. No one with a small number of Thanks would have ended up in the discipline camp or had less chance of getting a loan from the bank. I hope that the administrators will not launch such actions against us ;)

You got it right puppy_apprentice. But it sneaks inside the psyche of some of the forum members, in way that the thanked counter has an actual meaning.

You guys seem so much fun to hang out with. :D
I find it very entertaining that a single post can stir things up on a forum.

People have different personal paradigms and see things differently.
A paradigm is like wearing a colored glasses and seeing the world through them.
If someone wears a green glasses he will think that the world is green until he puts a different colored glasses.

For some thanked points are a symbol of status, for others a level of helpfulness, for some popularity contest, for third nothing at all.
On a technical side it's only a small area on a screen with an icon that sets a counter on user's profile.
It's meaning is defined as a reward for something.
I mean I can post funny pictures in an off-topic part of the forum all day long and get likes by feeding the users with the hormones of happiness,
or I can help in other technical parts of the forum.
The result is the same, counter goes up either way.

What if there was a "fuck you" button instead that count's how many fucks were given to members?
Although some of you naughty boys and girls would definitely like to have that button, I'd prefer @rockedge doesn't do that. :lol:

Jokes aside, number of posts doesn't mean anything either except how long has a member been on the forum and how active it is.
If I told you who I really am, all those prejudices and paradigms about me would change.
But I'd like to keep that as secret for now. ;)

I did not want to change things for everyone on the forum but the group dynamics
is so confusing and chaotic in these modern times.
