Enable Dark theme for GTK3 apps Fossapup

Post by 666philb »

fossapups GTK3 themes (numix-sun & numix-dusk) also have a dark mode.

to enable edit
/root/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
and add

Code: Select all

gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme = 1
GTK3 apps should now be in dark mode (deadbeef, abiword, geany, libreoffice, chrome, firefox etc)

here's also an attempt at a matching dark numix-dusk gtk2 theme.

you'll need to play around with the colours in rox-filer options afterwards example ..

i've noticed that in the first attached .pet that the cursor in applications isn't showing.
this is now fixed

Just to add to Phil's short tute; I've been meaning to share these for quite a while; this seems as good a time as any. I totally forget where I got these, except that I remember it was an 'official' (or at least 'semi-official') source.

Anyway; I'm talking about a zipped collection of dark themes, called 'Shades of Gray'. There's an original, and 6 variations-on-a-theme.....difference usually being in the 'highlighting'.

Download, unzip, and put 'em in /usr/share/themes. The tarball's about 4 MB in total. The resulting themes are as follows:-

You can download the tarball from the Drive, HERE. I'll echo Phil's observation about playing around with the colours in ROX; I've had to do the same with these, because otherwise the different file-type colours - which are readable in a light theme - become in many cases all but invisible.....

Mike. ;)

Hi. Does this still work? I added that line and nothing changes. This is my settings.ini file:

Code: Select all

[Settings]
gtk-theme-name=numix-dusk
gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme = 1
gtk-icon-theme-name=PMaterial
gtk-font-name=Lucida Grande 11
gtk-cursor-theme-size=0
gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_BOTH
gtk-toolbar-icon-size=GTK_ICON_SIZE_LARGE_TOOLBAR
gtk-button-images=1
gtk-menu-images=1
gtk-enable-event-sounds=1
gtk-enable-input-feedback-sounds=1
gtk-xft-antialias=1
gtk-xft-hinting=1
gtk-xft-hintstyle=hintfull
gtk-xft-rgba=rgb
gtk-cursor-theme-name=ComixCursors-Orange-Large
