@sonny :-

Heh. I'll give ya full marks for the website, mate. Not bad!

Just bear in mind that if you're planning on selling these USBs.......it's been tried before. And it hasn't always been that successful. But.....kudos for being enterprising.

Mike. ;)

That's only one seller of Puppy. If you search eBay, you'll find things like this:

Thank you for your kind words. It is greatly appreciated. Actually, it is not a 'business' for me, but rather for others to 'imagine'. "Please don't shoot me I'm only a screenwriter". I tried it with 3M (MX, Manjaro, and Mint) preinstalled, but they didn't come close to our Puppy (root freedom + PM13, etc), so I dropped those '3 Musketeers'.
Note: it's just a cool web template that I used

Very well thought-out, impressive, and excellent web site. :D

Want to work on giving Puppy a similar very good looking Puppylinux.com

Linux operating systems(OS), have been offered preinstalled on CD/DVD and USB sticks, for as long as there has been Linux OS.

Nothing wrong in doing it, and it is helpful to people, that do not want to download the Linux OS, and make their own CD/DVD or USB stick.
Have trouble doing it or understand what to do.

The only thing that has been a well known understanding, by all who work on, and support the ideas of Linux OS.

If you offer a Linux OS in the form of a preinstalled CD/DVD or USB stick.

All you can charge for it is this:
Your cost for the CD/DVD or USB stick.
A very small charge for your time to produce it.
Offer free shipping (cost as part of your price for it) or charge a separate price for the shipping, exactly what it would cost.

Example:

Screenshot(5).jpg
Screenshot(5).jpg (113.54 KiB) Viewed 1241 times

.

As long as you stick to this very simple principle, in offering Linux on a CD/DVD or USB stick.

I completely support your idea and your excellent web site presentation!

Note:
If this topic turns into a link to a place you can actually buy something.
That is not allowed on this forum.
Notice my attached example image is just a image, nothing to click on that will work.
Maybe because it will be for Puppy Linux, rockedge may allow this one topic.

You can charge whatever you like for the media under gpl license I think, but others can freely duplicate and share as long as under same gpl license terms I believe. Maybe I'm wrong...

Sure under GPL you can charge for something.

But That does not make the Linux community support what you want to charge!

Any Puppy download on puppylinux.com could be made to require you to pay a price, after you click on download.
A charge for the Puppy version ISO.

But if that ever happens.

I stop supporting Puppy Linux.

Paying someone to buy a CD/DVD or USB stick, taking the time to install Puppy Linux on it, and sending it to me in the mail.
I should be willing to pay for that at a reasonable low price.

But if you are going to charge a price for Puppy Linux, to download the ISO.
Then I expect to get payed for the work I have done on Puppy Linux.

Having a donation button on a web site. that offers downloads of Puppy Linux ISO's. is acceptable to the Linux community.

Just like the donation link on this forum!
For anyone that wants to help pay for the server charges to provide this forum.
.
.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux is another example of charging for it.
You can download it for free and use it.
But if you want any support from Red Hat for any issues or problems.
You have to pay for a yearly subscription.
A company using Red Hat, is going to want Red Hat providing support services.
So, they pay for the support.

Thank you, gentlemen!

Sometimes making the right stuff is not enough.
It must be delivered and used correctly or properly.

ISO and live USB are clearly made for enthusiasts.
PC:IMPOSSIBLE's prepared and delivered to the rest (mainstream/end users: those who don't install OS but apps to use from the get go)

As far as experimenting goes, only Puppy Linux IS really full-fledged enough to use as a preinstalled OS on removable media like USB.
FYI, I tried preparing PC:IMPOSSIBLE with Mint, MX, and Manjaro, but NONE of them realistically compared to our beloved Puppy.

As for the "business" term, it's NOT for me to make money (I'm a full-time screenwriter)

However, anyone who adds "value" on top of it (by helping prepare and deliver it to the latter etc) deserves a tip.

Thank you again and Happy Thanksgiving!

"Simplicity is the shortest distance between two points."
This is why "SIMPLI CITY" is the wallpaper for PC:IMPOSSIBLE ;)

No, I don't think you have to worry about that at all. The GPL license requires the source material to be made available (e.g. online download) without cost I think (?). But it is an entirely different matter the charging for specially prepared media and support I believe, for which you can charge whatever you like though clearly no point charging more than the market would pay for.

Aside from for the Linux hobby/enthusiasts, it does seem reasonable to provide pre-prepared usb-sticks, designed and configured well for out-of-the-box usage by anyone who can follow the simple boot instructions. That is a useful service to the mass market of otherwise non-technical potential Linux users. Let's be frank, most people you meet in the street would not have a clue about installing any Linux distro via forum help such as this one provides - they wouldn't even consider it or ever try, but some might well purchase a well marketed easy to plug and play OS usb stick. Thereafter they might even learn some Linux... and become one of the forum crowd.

ISO = IKEA
Live USB = Studio apartment
Preinstalled, preloaded USB = Furnished house

Developers should consider delivering their distributions in two flavors:
1. ISO/Live USB for enthusiasts
2. Preinstalled USB for mainstream users*

*As for me, only Puppy performs well as a preinstalled USB so far.
Others are intended to be INSTALLED:
Internally. Stationary. Slave to updates.
No freedom.

Hi @sonny That's I good Idea, but this need a lot of time to give a good service.

Sometimes I thought about starting something similar, but I haven't got enought time to do this.

Only one question.- Why did u include a youtube link if there is no content at this channel?

Thanks a lot

n.b.- All my support . (where can I download this ISO to test it?)

Have a nice day.

The 'release' version is coming soon.
Vanilla ISO is DIY for enthusiasts, but preinstalled for end users (like Windows, macOS).
Most PC users are novices who don't know how to partition, flash USBs, etc etc. Even some enthusiasts enjoy simplicity and hassle-free, non-vanilla, non-DIY stuff.
Simply put, this may not be targeted at a user like you.
