If you are using LibreOffice then place them in:
/opt/libreoffice<your existing build number>/share/fonts/truetype

Re: Microsoft True Type Core Fonts
Apparently not
Says who?
the script is hosted on Sourceforge
So what? Just because some guys make a package of Microsoft's proprietary fonts and boldly add a GPL license to their work doesn't make these fonts Open Source.
Don't get me wrong: I very much would love to see that Microsoft puts these fonts into the public domain, but so far I haven't found a single official statement or license issued by Microsoft that would support this. If there is one I would like to see it.
To be sure I downloaded the package (using ally's MediaFire link ) and searched for copyright notices embedded in the TTF fonts. Consistently found something like this:
Calibri: 2005Version 1.02
Calibri is either a registered trademark or a trademark of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or other countries.
You may use this font as permitted by the EULA for the product in which this font is included to display and print content. You may only (i) embed this font in content as permitted by the embedding restrictions included in this font; and (ii) temporarily download this font to a printer or other output device
Doesn't look Open Source to me.
Compare this with notices included in DejaVu fonts:
Fonts are (c) Bitstream (see below). DejaVu changes are in public domain. Glyphs imported from Arev fonts are (c) Tavmjung Bah (see below)

Re: Microsoft True Type Core Fonts
The point is that this forum, or rather @rockedge, could be held liable for proprietary stuff posted on his website, this forum. Just as if you posted a copyrighted movie on YouTube.
Re: Microsoft True Type Core Fonts
microsoft released its core fonts for free use back in 1996
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_fonts_for_the_Web
https://github.com/pushcx/corefonts
the wikipedia and github link do some explaining about how these can still be allowed to be available.
the github link has the original packages as issued by microsoft, read the readme.md for a refresher for what you can read in the wikipedia page.
