Bible study AppImage - Xulsword

Post by sysstb »

For a very long time I have been looking for a bible study AppImage that would work with fossapup64. I have finally found one: xulsword v4.0.7!! Here's the link: https://github.com/JohnAusti.../xulswor ... tag/v4.0.7

Thanks @ssytb,

I had to run with the switch --no-sandbox to get anything going in Fossapup64. But it does run well.

@sysstb :-

Hm. Curious. In just 24 hrs, that Github link has disappeared.....

:?: :?:

EDIT:- No, I see what you've done. Somehow, you've posted a truncated URL, with half the address missing. This is the full URL:-

https://github.com/JohnAustinDev/xulsword/releases

.....and we're already up to 4.0.8, BTW.

Mike. ;)

Well, MikeWalsh, as Xulsword has already come to your attention:

1) I found that it was necessary to start the AppImage with a script so that it would run-as-spot. Easy enough. But,
2) While it ran well and had built-in a lot of resources, it also provides a module for adding others. In college I was history/political science major. I often found it helpful to view maps and apply geo-politics to assess what was really going on. So I tried to download maps which were offered. The attempt failed. Some of the module's default download locations were /home/spot; some weren't. My suspicion is that it may be necessary to set Xulsword up as a portable similar to your wine-portable.

Speaking of Wine, its now at version 8.5 and mmtrt has published an Wine-Staging AppImage. https://github.com/mmtrt/WINE_AppImage. Some recent version of e-sword have received platinum or gold ratings, https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... n&iId=1341. 10.4 --which received a 'gold' rating can be obtained here, https://e-sword.en.uptodown.com/windows/download/103497 But mmtrt's AppImage is, itself, almost 1 Gb in size even without any user-added programs and before it creates a wine-prefix (another 1GB) . eSword, itself, is only about 50 Mb download.

Version2013 has published an 8.5 version of Wine. https://ia802504.us.archive.org/view_ar ... ne-8.5.tar. So, perhaps the best way to run a fully usable version of e-sword would to use version2013's latest pet (perhaps installed and partially externalized*) or converted to a shinobar style SFS**. But much simpler to setup --so worth trying to see if it's adequate-- would be to install the latest e-sword under MikeWalsh's Wine-portable, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 191#p68191. I tested the above referenced 10.4 version of e-sword and it seems to run well under Mike's 5.11 portable***. The most current version of e-sword did not run at all. Always check WineHq for the experience of others as to program versions under wine.

*** Correction: its download module also didn't work. Perhaps --IIRC-- it might if gecko had been installed when I first setup the portable. At that time I didn't see a reason to.
