His influence with technology is so dominant, today, it is not just scary in how it will be used for his gain. Rupert Murdock taught mankind how to seize broadcast and media to direct what the masses will respond to for his gain. Murdock did that on several of the world's continents using his influence to control what people thoughts are with inaccurate information playing to the human frailties we all have on some level.
Musk is taking this much-much-much further as he not only has one of the world's dominant media delivery mechanism (similar to what Murdock did) BUT he also controls technology at a level never seen on the planet before. His dominant position is inter-stellar, robotics, neurals, guidance, and now media (twitter), we, mankind is headed to something beyond what the movie 'The Matrix" brought to our attention.
The US will KILL TikTok leaving Twitter in sole possession of social media. Using this as a media platform along with Musk's products, we are heading to a new era never seen operating at this level before in history. We, on the planet, are about to see an unheralded manner in what we see, hear, have, and do. There is NO examples in history to draw upon, in what is happening.
As @wiak alludes, the checks+balances to present accurate contents for accurate evidence based info for proper perceptions may very well become a thing of the past for a very long time.
I HOPE I AM WRONG, BUT, in my lifetime working at the levels in corporate and society, I have been right too often.
The world cannot be stopped or paused (that notion which was publicly proposed). A stoppage considering so many CANNOT agree because of the wealthy who have access to the politicians keeping political fights as normal will NOT be a approach at any level. Just looking at the Climate positions and lack of any real concerted efforts have NOT brought implementations of common solutions. So when university professors and our best Scientific people met with US politician in 1968, the politician laughed and STOPPED any efforts to do anything while they continue to study the problem(s). So STOP in technology is NOT going to happen at neither industry or governmental levels in the world. Musk's dominance will manifest in a near few months-years rising to a leadership position in a way never seen before. If you play chess, this is now a checkmate position, already to late to deter.
So everything will continue to advance at record paces. There is no government on earth that can stop Musk. They did not stop Murdock knowing what he was up to. And they cannot stop Musk, Its already too late.
That leave us, basic humans, to merely look at the indicators of where this is going.
AS I look at mankind's current direction, it is sustainable, but not as we have had it in the past. Today, many of our old human models will need to change: Economics, Natural resource distributions, Food and water availability, medical practices. and HOW to maintain a database of accurate information that is constantly improved with more evidence based facts updating it regularly. This is a massive paradigm shift that must occur or we will perish...not naturally, but by OUR hands.
Look at AI seeking ways to help us improve the world we are a part of. But dont lose sight if what is occurring around us. Improve those things as best you can, as well.
