With proper porteus-boot the file /mnt/live/tmp/modules
should exist (quick-remaster does a check for that), if not, something is very wrong with the porteus-boot system in your setup.
edit; For info, I cannot help for such a derative as MX-15_386_CORE_Nov_2016_v2.iso, also... 2016 .... is very old.

IIRC, the Quick Remaster program didn't come out until Stretch. There is another remaster program that preceded it that only created the *.squashfs file and you had to build the ISO yourself.
It's still in Buster. Called "Remaster-DebDog64".
Run:
Code: Select all
remasterdog-start

Question: Does the file /mnt/live/tmp/modules exist after boot ?
(if not, you're not booting with porteus-boot and quick-remaster cannot work)
