pmcputemp using too much resources.

Post by TC-21-32 »

I like to shut off the cpu temp monitor. In a 22 hour period it grew from about 15 Mb to over 100 Mb.
I like the temp being displayed yet always watching the amount of RAM.
Any thoughts why it grows so quickly?

@TC-21-32 - sadly, this is a known memory-leak issue, resolved in recent pups. I suggest you try the following .pet,
download from here: viewtopic.php?p=4697#p4697
Before installing, you must kill, then uninstall pmcputemp. In a terminal (console) run: killall pmcputemp
then
From the Menu, under Setup, uninstall builtin package pmcputemp
Then install the pet by clicking on it in ROX-Filer.
Then restart X .
Need to save upon exit to retain settings.

Thank you for that. Been dealing with memory bleeders for quite awhile.
I must’ve killed it good! In terminal I type “killall pmcputemp”.
Terminal reports back. “killall: pmcputemp: no process killed”
I can turn temp back on by typing pmcputemp and hitting enter.
X out of the terminal and pmcputemp shuts off along with.
No entry in task manager which is good.
I tried the Menu/Setup/Remove builtin packages.
The window won’t accept any typed commands. Cursor not blinking.
I’ll try again tomorrow.
screeny capture in front of a browser page. Both machines. Something else going on also.

@TC-21-32 - with the package remover, you have to click the down arrow at the right & scroll in the next window to find things. You can't type in there.

Oh my. I've felt foolish before and it will happen again. It uninstalled just fine. Thank you.
I fussed with both pm and poorer a bit today. No joy. I didn't do something right to get poorer going. A new .pet for pm works the same as the builtin. A bleeder.
I'll keep at it.

@TC-21-32 - you could always try an old one of mine - still has memory leak, but restarts itself every hour, so effect minimal.
Need to uninstall other temp .pets. See: https://oldforum.puppylinux.com/viewtop ... 7#p1022287

No joy quite yet. I'll keep working on it as I can. Other issues looming again. :-)

Did u think about configure it to take the info not so frequently?

It's possible this way it uses less resources.

Excellent thought! I understand what you're saying.
Sorry, I'm too dumb to implement it pp4.
Been hanging around since 4.11 yet I struggle to fully ......
