Just trying out Jammypup64 ................. not sure exactly what it is using atm re audio.

For my hardware it works OTB unlike FP64-96.

Very similar memory footprint when checked using HTOP as to my current OS approx 1.4GB when browsing.

I am not a power user, so this meets my needs with no input from me.

The PPM seems to work and I managed to get it updated straight-away.

Never could with FP64-95; most probably as I broke a number of the in-built compression options

Not a bad experience after all. With the help of members on the forum here, learned to build applications and most members are incredibly helpful and supportive. Always a positive experience here for me

Loved the idea of @dimkr Vanilla pups, but realised that I needed more knowledge to get myself onto a stable footing.

Thanks but no Ubuntu/Debian flavours? I think there is a market for it..Anyways, your 32-bit Jammy offering still has it (I think) so will probably download that at some point when Bionic gets too old. No need for upgrading to a 64-bit system really when having an old computer at this point in time as some of the top browsers are still released in 32-bit versions. BTW - Thanks for keeping the 32-bit line going.

Unfortunately that list does not provide the crucial information I am looking for. I'm guessing the older 64-bit Fossapup meets my requirements. Anyways - I've just downloaded your LXDE sfs for Bionic to check it out...

AUFS is there - hover over download column header - all AUFS unless says overlay

I guess you mean Alsa & JWM? That level of detail you have to visit the further detail links given.... but most are except VanillaDPup

I mean all 3. Hovering over gives links to pages, it doesn't say it's AUFS. Vanilla mentions overlay so the others are guesswork (not stipulated like the Vanilla entry).

amethyst, do try jrb's Jammy64pup, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 612#p81612. It is still jwm and still uses aufs*. All of the new Puppys except S15pup use pulse-audio. But I haven't had problems working with pulse-audio under jammy64pup. Learning how to use it took some doing. But pulse-audio --whether we like it or not-- seems to be the wave of the future. Once I figured out how to configure it** jammy64pup did save my settings. I've been able to use your nicOS-utilities-suite, PaDS, other common utilities like ListDD and the utilities I published here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 513#p69513. Have also found some application for every major category.

jammy64pup is IMHO fully functional but still a 'work in progress'. Your insight would be helpful.

Currently, however, f96 is my daily driver.

* IIRC, currently the stock kernel used by jammy64pup can --depending on the boot-argument-- use either AUFS or Overlays. It defaults to AUFS.
** Not difficult, just different. Actually, easier than Multiple-Soundcard-Wizard + Alsa.

I did ask the question if Jammypup was using PulseAudio.

From the Pipewire website I read this:

• Seamless support for PulseAudio, JACK, ALSA, and GStreamer applications.

It goes on to inform the reader that Pipewire will provide a core building block for the future of Linux application development alongside Wayland and Flatpak.

I have seen these applications mentioned here on the forum but have little knowledge myself. Only knowing that they correspond to video, audio and self-contained applications.

Thanks, I'll probably change to 64-bit when Bionic 32 becomes obsolete. Availability of browsers and hardware will play a roll whether I will be moving on or not (my guess is this is still going be a long time). I've used pulse-audio before when I tested DPupBuster64 at one stage. Not too bad.
