@snow_ball
Well, you can try the manual method.
There are many infrastructure changes with 5.0, so I don't know if there will be any gotchas updating from 4.5.5.
Can't think of any specific gotcha right now.

Download 'easy-5.0-amd64.img', click on it to open, take out 'vmlinuz', 'initrd' and 'easy.sfs'

Copy those files to /mnt/wkg, in other words /mnt/$WKG_DEV/$WKG_DIR

To be sure those files are fully copied out, unmount 'easy-5.0-amd64.img' by clicking on it again.

Then reboot.

I got intrigued, had to try it for myself, updating from 4.5.3 on a usb-stick

It worked, got the desktop, but wallpaper missing. It was set to 'default.jpg', which doesn't exist.
That was easy to fix, ran Qwallpaper.

But none of the containers work. So, tackle each one...

The "www" container
When you click on this, it runs script /usr/sbin/ec-chroot-www
You can open that script and see what it does, and run it from a terminal, like this:

Code: Select all

# ec-chroot www chromium

...and you will see an error message.
I know why it fails. Open /mnt/wkg/containers/www/configuration and change this from "true" to "false":

Code: Select all

EC_ENV_SPOT='true'

Reason is, Firefox works as user spot in the container, but chromium doesn't.

I now click on "www" containerized icon, chromium starts.

Onto the next one...

"term" container
That works.

"kirkstone" and "dunfell" containers
Yes, there are two on the desktop.
Delete the icon labelled "dunfell".
Go to /mnt/wkg/containers, and rename the "dunfell" folder to "kirkstone"

The "kirkstone" icon now works.

Tested a few apps, they work, so the update seems to have worked.

The Limine bootloader menu still has "EasyOS Dunfell", so you would have to edit 'limine.cfg'
or do the same for whatever bootloader you are using.

No, 4.5.5 is the last.
It will fragment my time too much developing updates for the Dunfell-series.

it can not only be about the developer . I invested time it some thing that with in a month . is unsupported . have never seen any thing so unstable do not see how it could be a daily driver for any one .

All about the developer all the time and about no one ells

Huh?

The Dunfell-series started on January 25, 2021, version 2.6.1, so it has been going for two years.

Unstable?

My experience with both the Dunfell and Kirkstone series are they are rock-solid, tested on several computers.

I have posted to my blog:

"Reflecting on why am I doing this?"

OK, I have complained a little bit, but let it rest.
