Can't boot Vanilladpup ISO using RUFUS {SOLVED}

Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello:

It's impossible for me boot the iso image when I use RUFUS as booting tool.

I don't know if it is only prepared for other boot software, but although I have no problem booting other puppies, vanilladpup is impossible to do.

Can you help me, please.

Thanks a lot:

(some times appears the message CAN'T BOOT and anothers Can't find the 3rd archive)

Try Etcher. If I remember correctly, Rufus is confused by the hybrid ISO.

If there was a simple in-house tool that was confirmed to work with Vanilla Dpup, would you recommend it instead of these third-party apps?

Yes, bootflash. The one in Vanilla Dpup supports UEFI, F2FS, syslinux and even microcode updates.

Unless the USB stick is new and never been used.

Try Rufus after you make sure the USB is clean.

To really make sure it is clean.

Best if you setup the USB drive with all previous partitions deleted.

Make a new partition table (msdos type)

Partition into one partition, formatted fat32.

There is always the chance that the download of the Vanilla Dpup ISO was not good.
It happens.
Try using a new download of the ISO.

Also, if the ISO was downloaded to a ntfs formatted partition that Windows ever used.
There is a chance the ISO got fragmented, because the file system was fragmented in the ntfs format.
Running Windows defrag program first, to make sure the partition file system is not fragmented, then download the ISO to it, may help.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

There has been some posts about the version of Rufus being used having issues.

Version 3.17 was the one that seemed to work best.

I did a test under Etcher recently. Version 9.3.6 (ISO) did not work. Version 9.1.27 worked under Etcher (uefi.img.gz)

Thanks everybody:

Solved using a previous Vanilla DPup versión (9.2.18), the one I'm testing now.

Greatefully surprised with it, puppy works really fast, and that is what I was searching for.

It works really well although I need to install my browser (slimjet) but I'm on it, although its posible I need your help again.

Thamks a lot for your help
