Errors trying to run steam program from Quickpet fossa

Post by bigpup »

Frugal install using a save folder.

Quickpet -> Fun -> Steam

Installed steam and got wariing that 32bit compatibility sfs was also needed to run it.

Quickpet -> Useful -> 32bit compatibility SFS
Only one listed to download is the 32bit-compatibility-Fossa64.sfs
Downloaded it and loaded it.

When starting Steam get this error:

Steam never runs.

@bigpup

The links in quickpet fossa are to applications compiled by 666philb years ago for FossaPup64-95.

Those old applications may or may not work with F96.

Erik does not have access to the ibiblio server where the old quickpet programs reside.

bigpup, does peebee's 32-bit compatibility SFS work? Link here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 294#p78294. That posts notes that it won't work with Voidpup64. With that exception --and I'm not sure about VanillaDpup-- it worked with all the 64Bit Puppies I tried.

Of course, if it does work that only solves a third of the problem. The other two thirds are (1) providing easy access and (2) preventing access to the wrong repo. F96-CE needs its own repo. Any ideas?

I tried loading the 32bit-compat-s15pup64-22.12.sfs

That did seem to fix the error.
Did not get any 32bit errors using it.

However, steam is still not working.

From terminal get this:

# steam
File "/usr/bin/steamdeps", line 316
print " | ".join( [ str(package) for package in row ] )
^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
Running Steam on puppy 9 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What this is proving:

Steam offered in Quickpet Fossa is not going to work in F96-CE.

Maybe that the 32bit-compat-s15pup64-22.12.sfs is a better one to use.

.

I picked the Steam program as a good test, because it had issues from the beginning in Fossapup64 9.5 Quickpet.
However, it did get fixed for it and worked.

Well, if Quickpet Fossa is going to be in F96-CE
The software offered in it needs to be tested to make sure it works.
If not working do not have it in Quickpet Fossa.

I figured it needs to be tested to see if it works.
If not what may fix it.

Maybe just remove Quickpet Fossa
