Veracrypt launcher and password - part solved

Post by mik93 »

Hi all,
Just installed fossapup64_9.5 puppy to a stick with persistance - all works well BUT
Then installed veracrypt GUI; It runs well from a terminal.
What I need is a menu entry or desktop icon that is the equivalent of the simple terminal command "veracrypt"
Part solved
Drag and drop veracrypt.desktop from /usr/share/applications to the desktop works to create launcher

The menu entries in system and in utility that ask pw for /root/%f in order to run
Still open: removal or correction of these two menu entries that ask for root password

I may be wrong, but as far as I can tell Veracrypt is designed to run as a limited User, i.e. a normal user under Ubuntu. Puppys run as Root/Administrator. There are two possible workarounds we use: (1) start a application with a script containing the argument 'no-sandbox', which is probably not be applicable with veracrypt or (2) run that application as /spot via a script with that argument. But Spot restricts all products to its own Spot folder, not likely what you want to do.

Perhaps with Veracrypt a third workaround might be to use a script which supplies the password. But don't ask me how to write that. I don't really speak 'bash'.

Better yet, for encryption use LUKS, from here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 2827#p2827 or pzip. Both are discussed in a more complicated situation here, https://www.forum.puppylinux.com/viewto ... 205#p79205.
