How do I get gdm to work?

Post by davidjackson »

Pupply Linux: fossapupp64-95

I installed gdm (and related packages). How do I configure so that it will kick off at boot up?

TIA,
David Jackson

What is gdm?

How did you install it?

@davidjackson :-

If you want help, you're going to have to volunteer a bit more information than that. We don't work well with "bare minimums" here, y'know? We're NOT 'mind readers'!

@bigpup :-

I suspect the OP wants to be able to manually log-in & out, but they're going about it the wrong way.....they appear to think Puppy works like every other mainstream distro out there.

GDM is the Gnome Display Manager, which handles graphical log-ins/log-outs and authentication. Puppy, by & large, doesn't DO things that way.....does it?

(*shrug*)

Mike. ;)

Well a selected window manager has to be installed.

This usually works.

Exit to the prompt

Use command xwin with the name of the window manager you want to use.

Code: Select all

xwin jwm
xwin i3
xwin icewm

That should change the window manager and be back at the working desktop.

When you shutdown if the save is updated. What window manager was being used, should be the one used, at next boot.
