Edit "* Fixes on network-manager-applet", solved; I'm posting from it now. Just realized I had booted back into Beta26. What I have as 28 didn't work. But I want to make sure I have 28b. Might have just re-installed 28a. Be back later.
By the way I noticed its GUI now includes the ability to hide/unhide the password. If this is conman & that's you doing

New release, thought I'd try again. Unfortunately, as per earlier releases this doesn't boot on my Asus laptop. It hangs at Configuring Hardware...
Are there any boot parameters that may help?
New Laptop - ASUS ZenBook Ryzen 7 5800H Vega 7 iGPU / 16 GB RAM
Booted to desktop without issue in this VM
Code: Select all
qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -m 2G -smp 2 -device AC97 -cdrom quickpup64_23.01-beta-1.iso
QP v23.01 boots and runs speedily.
Thanks!
I think kernel boot parameters regarding cpu cstate will fix this problem.
Thanks misfire, I'll be away for a few days, so I will try when I'm back home.

You can try this boot parameter from https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen
Code: Select all
processor.max_cstate=5
Hello everybody:
I can't install this Puppy Derivative.
I tryed a lot of derivatives (so I thought I know how to install them using RUFUS) but this derivative it's impossible to start.
At the boot, I choose the only installing option, and then.... BOOT ERROR.
I am interested about it to substitute my xenial pup (I think this is the last version of puppy)
Let me know , please
Have a nice day. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Wow. This Beta 3 is great. No issues to report. Stable and VERY Responsive! Feels more like an RC than a Beta.
Booting its ISO file into Frugal operation directly from SG2D and QEMU as shown below:
qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -m 2G -smp 2 -device AC97 -net nic -net user -rtc base=localtime -name "Quickpup64 v23.01-b3" -cdrom quickpup64_23.01-beta-3.iso
.
Thanks @mistfire for all that you present. Excellent work.
Maybe the next version will be "...v23.02-RC?"
P.S. As I'm sure you know, @wiak is one of the community's XFCE experts.

After being able to boot devuanpup with the kernel line parameter previously suggested by mistfire processor.max_cstate=5
in conjunction with nomodeset
, I have tried again to boot quickpup. It still won't boot to desktop. Previously it failed on configuring hardware, now I get almost to it booting, failing to start X. So close now.

Hi Terry. If you've got an intel box like me, this would make sense. You may already know this but just in case, Intel requires KMS so <nomodeset> will never work.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's an AMD Ryzen.

IN using QP v2301rc3, finally, I find this a fascinating upgrade.
Its ISO file now boots directly to desktop from QEMU, SG2D and most recently, this is one of only 2 WoofCE PUPs (or derivatives) that currenly boot directly from the Ventoy Menu without the need to preface the boot with SG2D.
The ONLY thing that I find as this distro matures is a need for exFAT ability so that the mounts can occur. This is required for file-management use with new USB sticks or new USB SSDs or USB storage which are used OOTB without formatting.
Thanks @mistfire for the details and improvement that continue to reach us with these distros.
