Post by ozsouth »

WARNING:-
OLD KERNELS & FDRVS SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH WOOF-CE PUPPIES CREATED AFTER 2022.
STRUCTURAL CHANGES WILL LIKELY CAUSE CORRUPTION.

Superseded.

If you still want to try it (with old puppies only), it is in Kernel archive:

@ozsouth

I can't believe you've updated the kernel again :lol: :thumbup:

I did not realise that updates were so readily available..... in my mind I thought these took time ie a few months in between to be updated.

Previous updates have given me back some RAM which I have appreciated and now I know the difference between the low-latency kernels.

Once again, I have to ask, if I am still using the 17 Dec 2022 fdrv (which is also provided in your post), there should be no difference with ALSA/PulseAudio usage?

BTW I did ask if your Jammy Development ISO was available to download? Which kernel would that be using? TBH I am looking for updated components eg GlibC etc to use for compiling.

@Jasper - kernel sources are updated about every 5 days. It then takes me about 3 hours to compile, test & upload a new kernel.
The 17dec22 fdrv won't need updating for 6-12 months (doesn't change that often) & if your audio works now, no updates needed.
In the 6.x kernels, drivers like rtw88_8821ce began to work, needing new firmware, which I put in the 17dec22 fdrv. Occurs infrequently.
The jammypup64 overlayfs experiment I did is now redundant. Better options (from others) will appear in the next few months.

Official kernels are now being produced as github artefacts, & I expect my methods to become redundant sometime this year.

@ozsouth

Thanks for the speedy reply and the detailed answer, it's appreciated as is the time it takes you to work on these.

For some reason, I am always cautious regarding kernel upgrades, unsure as to why :lol: as "so far so good" :thumbup2:

Many thanks!
