How to switch to JWM from graphical login?

Post by stemsee »

How to change the window manager to jwm, when using the graphical login? Logging out takes you to the graphical login screen not the cli.

No need to logout to switch WM.

Code: Select all

restartwm jwm

should do the trick.

@stemsee, is your SNAPP app ready for the masses? You've got an SFS which I can upload to the contrib repo? That is, of course, if you're still interested.

Yes, SNAPP-1.8 is good to go. OR even 1.9 which has xrandr commands to rotate and position two screens in commands list. Feel free to add any specific fatdog commands, to commandlist, which simplify usage, as there are a lot of scripts which are otherwise un-referenced for the average/new user....optional!

If you have time to try it out that would be appreciated.

I also found out how to make slackware package from directory structure if needed.

Thanks, I will take a look, but if I don't have the time, I'll just upload it.
Are you sure it won't delete user's harddrive? ;)

See step 3.

Did the "restart jwm" command work for you, to switch the WM?

I'm finishing up a universal theme switching package and I was wondering if I should restart jwm automatically in the script. I think I'll put that command at the end of the script and see how it goes.

My project can be found here: viewtopic.php?p=48791#p48791

FOLLOW UP: Turns out that command in Fossapup restarts X-server. Which is actually what I wanted to do anyway. Thanks!

Yes that command works perfectly. The JWM menu then has WM selection. I use the extra large red cursor which in jwm only appears in the browser area! Strange behaviour, but interesting.

SNAPP has a command execute function just like xterm, if user uses an rm command recklessly then it has the same risk as doing it in xterm! Not my code or fault! So it's highly unlikely. Maybe i could build in a dangerous code checker! :?:

Don't worry about that. I'm just kidding
But seriously, just make sure that bugs in the program won't kill user's data.

SNAPP is now in Fatdog's contrib repo: viewtopic.php?p=48873#p48873
