oneroomstreaming problem (Abandoned - nothing worked)

Post by Mercedes350se »

I have a frugal install of Bionicpup32 with Firefox 102.0

I am trying to watch a oneroomstreaming service for example:

https://view.oneroomstreaming.com/index ... lfbGluaw==

The page partially loads and then a error message "Streaming error" with a box stating "Click to try again". Needless to say clicking it has no effect.

The oneroom streaming FAQs state that Firefox is supported!

I have tried Brave, Chrome and the latest version of Opera on an Android device with the same result.

Suggestions please.

Maybe something with your Internet service not being fast enough or dropping the stream.

They never give error messages that tell you anything useful

I tried the link you provided in Pale Moon browser and it works for me.
It is a 64bit version of the browser.

I wonder if you using a 32bit browser could be part of the problem.

@ bigpup

Thank you for your thoughts regarding 32 v 64 bit OS.

I have both types on the machine and also a Debian install. Various Firefox, Pale Moon versions. ( and a very late edit seamonkey as well)

Unfortunately no cigar.

what is your CPU and graphics hardware specs?

Maybe something about being too low specs.

There is always this answer for getting it fixedr:

All major browsers are supported by OneRoom, though older versions may present issues. You may need to confirm your browser version and update if it is too old.

The machine is a SFF Dell Optiplex 9020 so I doubt that is an issue.

I have thousands of entries in my hosts file ... A possibility? (EDIT 1. I don't think so - as the Android tests had the same result!)

What version of Pale Moon are you using?

EDIT 2. For the record Pale Moon 31.1.0 64 bit does not play either.

EDIT 3. Downloaded and installed Firefox 108.1 64 bit and still no joy!!!!! This was on a 64 bit OS ..

  • disable or rename your host file to take it out of the loop & try again.

  • If that repeats the problem, then for a single moment with the host file disabled, turn off your firewall.

  • Lastly, if all fails, try booting a PUP like one of the FossaPUP64 ISOs in a pristine state (namely in RAM from the PUP's Menu) and report progress back here.

Question
Have you seen this problem with anything else, for example in your Youtube use via the browser?

I am currently using Debian Buster - It is also installed with the other Puppies on this machine - the motive being maybe it is an OS issue.

To answer your comments:

Taking the hosts file out did not change anything.
As far as I am aware there is no firewall on this OS
I have a frugal FossaPup64 already on the machine. It was tested with the same result - error message.

This is the only site where there has been any problem.

I am beginning to lose enthusiasm - I have spent hours on it ...

I'm also using Bionic32. Link does not work for me with Palemoon 32-bit but does with Chromium. I use Palemoon all the time but some sites do not work properly with it (eg. trying to convert documents with google translate). I then use Chromium in these cases and it works (even with the older version 90 I have).

@ Mercedes35se

Just to let you know.

I am using frugal Bionic Pup 32 + 28 with Firefox V 108.0.1 (32 bit) internal hard drive. Single OS.

Not updated to latest V 108.0.2 (32 bit) yet.

The stream I am receiving from your link is:

Denis King 28 November 1931 - 23 December 2022.

Full visual and sound from beginning to end, no lag.

Unfortunately I cannot offer any help to resolving your problem.

Best regards

@Mercedes350se :-

Just thought I'd take a look at this. Not in Bionicpup, but Xenialpup 7.5 (32-bit).

Firefox-portable just updated to latest version. I'm getting "Dennis King" from your link.....and everything is working 100% for me. So.....don't really know what to tell ya!

I would expect that the site would be Chrome optimised. I have tried everything I can think of but no joy.

A direct link please so I can try it.

I have BionicPup64, FossaPup64 frugal installs so it is easy to do multiple tests.

To answer your question about my results.

Fossapup64 9.5 fully updated by using Quickpet->Info->Fossapup updates

Using Pale Moon browser latest version 31.4.2 (64bit)

I am seeing the video stream with no problem.

Maybe something with having these video settings in Pale Moon preferences is making it work for me:
Similar settings needed in whatever browser you use.

Just a thought you could try.

Open Firefox and click on the 3 horizontal bars (top right hand corner) then:

Settings > Privacy & Security > (under heading Permissions) Autoplay Settings.

If the box Default for all web sites shows Allow Audio and Video then my idea doesn't work.

If it doesn't show Allow Audio and Video then drop the menu and change it and click Save Changes.

Back out of Settings and try your link again.

Best regards

Re: oneroomstreaming problem

My conclusion is that it must be the machine itself. If so, what?

As I have a FossaPup64 frugal install I updated the OS, downloaded and installed the latest Palemoon as per bigpup's post. Checked the video settings - exactly as per bigpup. Same Error message. I should add that I simply extracted the new Palemoon to /mnt/home overwriting the previous version. The profile info would remain from the previous version so could that affect the new install?

I had previously downloaded Firefox 108.0.2. I tried it in FossaPup64 without/with the security settings mentioned by Chelsea80 . Still no joy!

What privacy and security settings you using in the browsers?

Maybe you are blocking something that is needed.

Tracking Protection

Blocking cookies or site data

I am using standard settings that are suppose to still block some things, but allow web sites to still work.

I know this does not solve your 'internal' problem, but it could be a workaround.

If this particular video is personally meaningful to you then:

Re: How to install Vlc on bionicpup32

Post by OscarTalks » Fri Apr 30, 2021 9:14 am

I have a version of VLC which I compiled from source in BionicPup32. This should always be better than using the Ubuntu version via the Package Manager. It is also a more recent version than the Ubuntu one.
Download vlc-3.0.11-i686-bionic.pet from here:-
https://yadi.sk/d/nxx9TP2i3HcXB5
Click on the .PET file to install it

You could then use VLC's video capture / stream facility.

I know it is nearly two years old but it works well on Bionic Pup. It is very versatile.

There are also other versions there that you might find useful.

Best regards

My machine is a Dell Optiplex 9020 SFF.

Hardfinfo reports:

CPU i5-4570S, RAM 8GB and graphics, I assume is integrated.

I have renamed my hosts file and tested, turned off firewall and tested, both the former and tested - still no joy.

Hair is getting thin!

I assume click Media>Open Network Stream...>enter the site URL>Play

If that is the case then no joy.

page partially loads and then a error message "Streaming error" with a box stating "Click to try again".

If this is still happening,
I guess we could rule out, it was a web site problem, at the time you did it.
That is why now it works for us.

I do have my browser set to not autoplay.
I click on the web site.
The video displays, but I have to click on play symbol for it to start playing.

Maybe make it do that and wait some time, before you click on play.

Why are my streaming sites not loading?
Internet buffering problems are usually caused by one of three issues.
Your internet connection is too slow to keep up with the incoming data.
The streaming provider can't send your device the data it needs fast enough.
Your home WiFi network is slowing things down.

Any of this a possible cause?

Try clearing all cached data in the browser.
cookies, web site data.

Maybe contact the support for who is providing your Internet service.
Maybe they can offer something.

I would say no to any of those possible causes.

I cleared all the data in both Palemoon and firefox and ... still no joy.

Thank you all for your input.

It's a terrible video format indeed but you see seamonkey 2.53.15 is playing this without problems.
