hi tahrbaby and everyone

thanks

Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
hi all
I see that jesse at distrowatch has added the 32 bit link to our page
however he has emailed me and informed me that as a rule they do not include a 32 bit link on the page
he reports that he will make an exception in this case
but that no 32 bit links will be included in 2023
thanks

Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
hi all
if we are to only have one download link on the distrowatch page
maybe it would be a good idea to have it point to a central location for downloads on the forum
where all the various links to the downloads are
this would also bring people to the forum where they would be exposed to the diversity of puppyworld
dont know if this would be a problem with extra traffic on the forum though

a new page at the forum? or perhaps https://puppylinux-woof-ce.github.io/
that page could be updated with a pr
Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
hi williwaw and everyone
this is an edit
i have reconsidered
i think the master download link should point to the puppy linux home page
one of the options williwaw has suggested
1. it is actually already listed on distrowatch as the homepage
2. it has more space
3. it is a better format
4. also it will make us pay more attention to the page
and thus the page will be regularly updated
5. it will eliminate possible problems with traffic on the forum
6. it will allow us to showcase the diversity of puppyworld
(i.e. present more than on distro as candidates without having to mess with distrowatch)
F96 ?
7. we wont have to mess with constantly changing the link on distrowatch
and maybe more reasons i cant think of just yet

Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
https://puppylinux-woof-ce.github.io/
1/ is not updated with the latest puppy.
2/ the description of the Puppy Linux advantageS ?? is not correct :
Ease of use → grandpa-friendly certified : wrong, installing bootloader or setting up the wireless is complex, plus palemoon is alsmost unknown to users as a browser. etc etc
Relatively small size → 300 MB or less. : wrong, it is bigger now.
Customisable within minutes → remasters. : not for beginners at all
Variety → hundreds of derivatives (“puplets”), one of which will surely meet your needs. : nobody in their right minds are gonna try so much LOOOOOLL.. ..and it is very frightening to beginners..
My 50 cents...
Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
hi mimine
i agree
the page needs to be updated
or its not a good idea to have it as a homepage
maybe if its the master download link it will get more attention and get updated regularly
or move it to the forum somehow so everyone can work on it ?

Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
hi all
you know the home page could be made very very very simple
just
1. a picture of the latest puppy
2. the links to the downloads
3. a very short blurb
4. and a link to the forum (for all further info)
so that it would not be a such chore to keep it updated

exactly, it should be simplified to the extreme.
Right now it doesn't fit to the "simplicity" of puppy linux.
Who can give me the keys for that page ? I will take care of it.
Don't worry, I will do a good job.

Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
puppy documentation in the woof-ce repo at github is in the process of being updated and discussed in this thread
viewtopic.php?t=7273
the main page https://puppylinux-woof-ce.github.io/ is a different repo at https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE and could be updated with a similar process.
@mimine
do you have a git hub account?
should the edits be a group effort in this thread? a different thread in the forum? a discussion could also be started at
https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/p ... .io/issues

If you have an account on Github you can issue Pull Requests from a fork of https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/p ... .github.io ...... useful if people can see the updated webpage to compare with the existing one.

Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
Here is the problem with any web page about Puppy Linux.
Someone has to be willing to take over responsibility, to control what goes on it.
Keep it updated.
This is not a full time job, but it is a job you must be willing to take.
Whoever does it, must be willing to review what is on it, and correct it.
That home web page, has been the same for many months, because the above has not been done.
So if you really want this home page to keep updated and looking good.
Someone, out in the world, needs to make it their job.
I think a request to 01micko or maybe just doing a pull request on https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/woof-CE volunteering to do the work and have the responsibility, will put you in control of the web page.
Just like this forum, that is provided by rockedge.
He has given me some control of the forum, by making me a forum moderator.
I volunteered for the job!
I must be willing to do it or I should no longer be a moderator.
Note:
Your location, on the Earth, has nothing to do with you being able to volunteer, to help with Puppy Linux!
The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected
Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
hi all
in my opinion
the solution to keeping things updated is very simple
everything should just be a link to the forum
puppy is a moving target
and it will never be possible for all the documentation and websites to be kept up to date
so people will have to go to the forum anyway to get the latest info
the home page should have the bare minimum and a link to the forum
then it would take one minute to change the picture and the links
or better yet it should be part of the forum
then anyone using the forum could keep it up to date

I have created a fork, and am open to either specific proposed edits that need to be in a PR
https://github.com/wlwaw/puppylinux-woo ... .io/issues
or discussion about changes
https://github.com/wlwaw/puppylinux-woo ... _text=true
edit: page deployed
...... useful if people can see the updated webpage to compare with the existing one.
how can I (or anyone else interested) view the forked page and not just the source?

Re: nominations for puppy on distrowatch
Best way is to use a markdown editor. I am using MarkText starting it with a .desktop file that has --no-sandbox as an argument on the Exec line.
The pages of the site are in markdown which I believe is later parsed and rendered to html.
This editor gives a preview of the page being worked on.
