Have you tried Krita SFS, at easyos/debian/buster?
It is a rather old version, 4.1.7, and will run in a container.

Here it is. I'll try it.

Sorry,long post,have yourself a tea...or scroll \/ :)

The wacom driver is available but it needs to be un-blacklisted , then reboot.

Thank you don570
wacom driver is loaded by default here ,not the problem here.

-Solved cursor going crazy & enable pinch-zoom+2fgr scroll in browser by adding etc/x11/xorg.conf.d/90-touchscreen-rightclick.conf
This conf is include in all last puppys since 5-6 years ,find it in void to tarhpup.
-here had to invoke wacom "early" or it was pickup by evdev as a mouse, i modprobe it in rc.d
-compiled libwacom 0.49 ,while at it ,xf86-input-wacom1.1.0
-xsetwacom wont see or list devices?? but xinput does the work, button remapping+++.

Choices of wacom integration(+ versions of these and kernels)
+ peculiar version of some devices like this tablet using 056a:4005 Multitouch (this tablet only).
ducklinuxduck it...else then M$ driver vendor...the hits you'll get is my once uploaded hwreport 60C93DDC01 of it !
(this devices got a buggy weird bios unstable battery management ,bizare power button option -power only -display+touch & 2 more)
+ being the 5th motion/explore_now zebra M$os build tablets i devote my love&stubbornness at using xvkbd/easystroke/xcompmgr
since, hmm, tarhpup to here , dealing with all distros choosen intregration of libwacom-libinput-xf86-input-wacom i sincerely
barely understand make the autodidact-Doctor-tweaks-peculiar-hardware-problems writer here often on his own when asking for help....
BUT please, dont be afraid by my problems into trying all developpers innovatives wonderfull distros...
if i can ,all noobies can..learn to backup&have fun And dont feel despear dear helpers if your solutions dont work for me.
__________
Tested until i got diZzy ;the containers+sfs+main+etc ?
is it like virtual drives optionaly inside/over/under qemu potentionaly inside another one
that could include a puppy +options with or without internet,or x ,or whatever your choice?!!?
under simple user, spot or god....a little too much for my usage ,but wow!!!
if some need it , here i5-6200u 8g and devx + kernel src+ chrome+ fossapup , it was getting slow.
.
Else ,
So you dont do as i did ,search a lot ;xvkbd is intentionnaly packed in easyos with
the creator&Doctor-Fatdog(or another coder, sorry, could be wrong) "wrapper" that should ^link^ it to your native
choose keyboard layout .
I use a US physical keyboard & usualy xvkbd with french layout & struggle a while with it.
Some experimental crude workaround ;
If anybody interested in testing my favorites ,tablet friendly pet,at your own****risk, i did that 1.35Mb pet:
---
easystroke with(do whatever with it)my settings ,
xvkbd 4.1 with scripts to open/close at different places (no gui;edit those to fit your resolution)+
xcompmgr(latest oe compiled *edit settings via startup xcompmgr-start )
---
****note; this sfs include etc/x11/app-defaults xvkbd keyboard layout as i had problem setting the french from easyos which seems to be the belgium one!!?!!
YOUR own****risk...surprise!!!!! yes its buggy² here and is annoying³ ,should work only for easyos by the way.
If someone is having touchscreen or wacom to test it ,will you get the same freezing on window resizing and moving using this pet ?
pm me please . i'll try easyos on another older wacom (similar touch/pen version) to see if i get those same buggy results.
This light utility work flawlesly elsewhere ,it should here too.
i should post on the "wacom/other puppy/easyos/what's working-what's not/this pet/touch+? " subjet elsewhere as i think it deserve his own .

oh....finaly been able to capture freezing window something of a log simply moving a window;
i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] Resetting rcs0 for preemption time out
i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] X[3665] context reset due to GPU hang
i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 9:1:85dffffb, in X [3665]
any ideas Doctors?

Do i got some request for easyos ?
yes...dont add more mounting options ,please!!! :)
-a gui for qemu ?

Happy coding!!
& holidays .

In fact, it has to run in a container, as it is for the EasyOS Buster-series.

Decided to try it... clicked on "sfs" icon, downloaded Krita SFS, it created an icon on the desktop. Yep, works, running in a container.

Testing krita sfs
http://distro.ibiblio.org/easyos/amd64/ ... _amd64.sfs

I first downloaded and put in dunfell folder, however there was a boot message that the SFS wouldn't load because of path problem.

So I put krita SFS in the Buster folder and it was recognized but it didn't load at boot time apparently..
So I can't test it.

Where can i find the EasyPack sfs utility.?
The .specs + naming convention is the only difference between "traditional" sfs? right? or was i lucky?
Can an sfs be just symlink to desired (main or containers) from another places ?
Think i succeeded at symlink one time, but while learning naming convention(well explained) & .specs details at that time in doubt i finaly copy it .
oh ,i remember , it was seen on sfs chooser gui but it was on a mounted drive and did not survived reboot..
I've manage to make a Chrome latest sfs , keeping the base of the 105 version ,changing .specs details .Work fine.
Did adapted .specs + name & test my void muse 4.1 Appimage+ bundle of synths sfs, was only missing fftw3f libs , libthai and libncurses i've borrow them elsewhere.
With pulseaudio its ok .Serious user may change some audio priorities to help.
Eventualy ,as i just found your pipewire tests Mr.K, i will give it a go myself.

***1 more ;do you think my wacom /touch window resizing/moving issues are gpu acceleration related ?
Should i wait or stop to report those ?
as i read its not fully enabled yet ...sorry for noobs terminology..
Dont bother answering with detailed gpu knowledges facts , i dont have those.
But if it can help other,go ahead!

Never had that much success at compiling pkg !!! no big ambitious projets yet ,is it the distro?
or simply linux evolutions ?
I enjoy the speed of Easyos a lot.
Daily experimenting is fun & schooling.

That's not how you install it. You must do it via the "sfs" icon, as I posted before.

The krita sfs belongs to the Buster-series, that is a different distro, and has to run in a container on top of the EasyOS buster*.sfs.

Delete the krita sfs that you have downloaded, then start again by clicking on "sfs".

SFS packages

I'd like a way to install SFS packages without the need of internet access.
Clicking on the SFS icon on the desktop assumes internet access. I get a warning message.

Ah, I recall now, you did mention that requirement, that you have to download the sfs files elsewhere.

OK, go to ibiblio.org and download all of these:

buster_2.6.2_amd64.sfs
buster_2.6.2_amd64.specs
buster.png
krita_4.1.7_amd64.sfs
krita_4.1.7_amd64.specs
krita.png

Place them at /mnt/wkg/sfs/easyos/debian/buster

Make sure there is no pre-existing /mnt/wkg/containers/krita from previous experiments.
If so, delete it.

Then, while offline, click on the "sfs" icon.
It will work in offline mode and will offer to install Krita.
It will install Krita correctly and you will have an icon on the desktop, that will run Krita in a container.

I tried a new frugal install and then followed Barry's instructions,
however clicking SFS icon results in message (see image)

and the boot app doesn't mention Buster container
It appears that no Buster container has been created.
So I will have to find out how to do this.
Dunfell is created automatically

Hmmm, looking at /usr/local/sfsget/sfsget:

Code: Select all

FIP="$(getlocalip | grep '^[^l]')" #ex: "eth0: 192.168.1.3"
echo -n "$FIP" > /tmp/sfsget/internet-flag #read in filterpkgs
if [ "$FIP" == "" ];then
MSGnoi="$(gettext 'There is currently no Internet connection, so SFSget will run in offline mode')"
 popup "background=#a0d0ff level=top process=wait terminate=ok|<big>${MSGnoi}</big>"
fi

It uses 'getlocalip' to test if you are online.
It would seem that you are not actually offline when you click on "sfs".

Installing krita via "sfs", it won't create a "buster" container, only a "krita" container.
You will have to do it and then look in the 'krita' folder and you will see what has happened.
It will load the krita and the buster sfs files.

EasyOS always connects my computer (via an Ethernet router ) to my home network.
So I never have to worry if it's connected.

I'll try disconnecting it and report back next week.

Krita container using Buster SFS

BarryK wrote:

That was all I needed to do and I could make a special Krita container.
Hovering over brush icons worked correctly.

The nice thing about containers is the ease of transferring clipboard info between containers. :thumbup2:

The use of containers should become popular once people become at ease with usage.

Yes, little usage details need to be sorted out, so everything becomes very simple, intuitive and obvious.

EasyOS Dunfell-series version 4.5.4 released, blog announcement:

https://bkhome.org/news/202301/easyos-d ... eased.html

This is the latest in the 4.5.x versions. Lots of bug-fixes and little enhancements since 4.5.

The Dunfell-series is tapering off, most attention ongoing is expected to be for the Kirkstone-series.

Will probably want users of the Kirkstone-series to do a fresh install, not an update, so as not to carry-on with possible unwanted cruft.

All of those SFSs developed for the Dunfell-series are still going to be usable in the Kirkstone-series. That is the beauty of Easy Containers. A Dunfell-series SFS runs on top of Dunfell-series easy.sfs in a container, so there is perfect compatibility.

NLUUG has mirrored the download:

https://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/eas ... 023/4.5.4/

454 problem with sound
this workstation has two sound cards visable,
-on the motherboard using card0;
-an external logitech dual speakerset using card1;
?both seem to be using the same driver for some reason;
on reboot or shutdown/start cold it starts as connected (ticked) to the onboard card0 device and I have to use mscw to set it to the card1 device each time;
saving on shutdown or otherwise as card 1 device 0 dissapears on reboot and it resets to card0 device0.
was ok with 4.5.1 my last install, I have used updates since and it was ok until 4.5.3, fails with 4.5.4.
any ideas?

Post by Geek3579 »

Just had a look at EasyOS 4.5.4 in QEMU. Looks good. Thanks ! And it runs very fast too.

I was also looking to do the install on a virtual drive in order to extract the three frugal files rather than write to a USB. I ran/setup the OS and after installation I searched for the required files in the partitions which didnt seem to be there... So while I was running EasyOS I did another install on a second virtual drive without any setup, checked the unaltered file system and the frugal files were right there in the ext4 partition. Great!

Then I had another thought...do I need to create a LIVE USB / virtual drive at all to extract the frugal files ?? Why cant I just mount the disk image?

SO, after some searching I found that I might use Barry's mount-image script, but it would not work in LXDE Fossapup64, presumably due to missing dependencies. (could have run it in EasyOS, I suppose)

Then I tried a some other commands or scripts that people had posted on the forum. What worked for me was a small shell script called loopimg.
See: viewtopic.php?t=3677
and: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1186&start=11

This will mount ALL partitions under /mnt and the terminal will give a an output similar to the following:

root# ./loopimg easy-4.5.4-amd64.img
Attaching easy-4.5.4-amd64.img to /dev/loop12
loop12 partition(s) mounted:
/dev/loop12p1 on /mnt/loop12p1 type vfat
/dev/loop12p2 on /mnt/loop12p2 type ext4

As loopimg folder contains a symlink for unloop which wont copy easily, I found it best best to unpack the tar file and just copy the loopimg script only into the same directory as the image.

Then ran ./loopimg <nam eof image>.img

BINGO. The two partitions are under /mnt and can be easily opened by PCManFM and ROX. They can be unmounted by ROX too.

EasyOS version 4.5.4

So far it's same as version 4.5.3
Samba works
Krita appimage - still hovering over brush icon causes multiple info messages
Blender appimage - subdivision modifier bug

dir2sfs script needs to give a warning if a SFS file with the same name exits
because ithe script appends the data to the SFS file.

keyboard problem

Post by don570 »

EasyOS version 4.5.4 as well as version 4.5.3 behaves strangely with foreign keyboards.

Here's an example :

Starting with a fresh frugal install I booted and at boot time I choose 'fr'

This resulted in the azerty keyboard as I expected.
the file /etc/keymap had 'fr' listed. That seems reasonable.

I then used the keyboard utility to change over to 'us' keyboard.
The querty keyboard was now in use as expected...
however the file /etc/keymap still had 'fr' listed.
When I used the console (for using xorgwizard) ---> the azerty keyboard was still used.

But returning to X --> the 'us' keyboard was still in use.
I next tried to switch to 'fr' keyboard using the keyboard utility but that didn't work.
So it seems like I am permanently in 'us' keyboard.

?And you dropped out of Xorg at least to the commandline, if not totally rebooted to allow the changes in the config files to be read and actioned? Any change to a config file needs this to happen. If it's a xorg-config file dropping out of xorg to the command line and restarting xorg should read in the updated config file and action the new setting, however some are kernel settings which need a total reboot to be actioned.

Try these and please report back whether a fail or not so others can see what happens or if there is a further setting needing to occur.

When X is running, you can change keymaps like this:

Code: Select all

setxkbmap fr

Type setxkbmap --help

There may be GUI programs to set the keymaps.

The programs that you are using set the terminal (console) keymaps,
when X is not running.

Thanks BarrK for all your work.

I have tested EasyOS version 4.5.5 FR (by updating 4.5.4).

No issue with keyboard (fr).

Containers don't launch (no display)

I've noticed three new files in /mnt/wkg/sfs/easyos/oe/dunfell without corresponding entry in sfsget :
dunfell_4.5.5_amd64.specs, dunfell_4.5.5-de_amd64.specs et dunfell_4.5.5-fr_amd64.specs

Strange. Try starting from a terminal, see if any error messages. for example:

# ec-chroot www firefox

...get them from the /usr/sbin/ec-* scripts

I've noticed three new files in /mnt/wkg/sfs/easyos/oe/dunfell without corresponding entry in sfsget :
dunfell_4.5.5_amd64.specs, dunfell_4.5.5-de_amd64.specs et dunfell_4.5.5-fr_amd64.specs

Ignore those. That is putting in place for when the Kirkstone-series is released, it will be possible to run "dunfell" sfs as a desktop in a container.

Try starting from a terminal, see if any error messages. for example:

# ec-chroot www firefox

...get them from the /usr/sbin/ec-* scripts

After reboot, Firefox closed.

# cd /usr/sbin/
# ./ec-chroot www firefox

I have tested EasyOS version 4.5.5 FR (by updating 4.5.4).

Containers don't launch (no display)

When I updated 4.5.4 to 4.5.5 the old version 4.5 was automatically deleted.
There was a symbolic link to easy_4.5_amd64.sfs in /mnt/wkg/containers/chromium that was broken by the update
I've remplaced this symbolic link by a new to easy_4.5.5_amd64.sfs and now chromium starts

Firefox (container www) still not works. But as I'm not using it before the update, perhaps the problem was previous.

Anyway, I will continue with the new installation. Thanks again!

kill process_number

A question ?? Is a 'kill process_number' command possible in a container??
I wasn't able to get it to work in ptmtimer script. Maybe I have too high security level???
Everything else worked.
