puppy linux on virtual box

i am using virtual box to try to run puppy linux iso but i get this error message.
i did a screen shot and it is attached to the message in png format.
what is kernel panic?

my virtual machine is set to have 256MB RAM and 320MB hard disk space.

Different Puppies have specific RAM requirements.

You could state which build of Puppy your are using

First try to increase the VirtualBox machine's RAM to 1 gb and reboot the ISO as CD-ROM drive

Also see if setting/unsetting the EFI flag for the OS makes a difference - its tickbox is under Settings –> System.
Check that the correct 32/64 bit OS is selected
Check that the type of OS is selected as Ubuntu or maybe even debian might work.
256MB Ram is not going to cut it IMHO. 1GB is a safe bet, and if you cant get that you might be advised to run VBox on a more powerful machine. I have run Puppy Linux on a 500MB machine (not as a virtual machine) but its a dismal performer.

My machine is now running now is a Dell Inspiron 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz with Windows 11 Home and has 8GB RAM and 512GB SDD hard drive.

The ISO that I am using is "fossapup64-9.5.iso".

I managed to get VirtualBox boot it by increasing the memory to 1GB and hard disk to 1GB based on a tutorial in Youtube

Yes, it did boot up but it is slow and a dismal performer. Also, I cannot use my VirtualBox loaded PuppyLinux to format my USB drive and install Puppy Linux on my USB drive!
Perhaps, this is a limitation of VirtualBox. So, I will go native as native is always faster.

I would like to erase Windows 11 Home but I need to get the fossapup64-9.5.iso to be made bootable on the USB. I used Windows to copy the contents of the ISO to USB drive
and I tried booting from my Dell but it seems to always go into Windows 11.

One of the USB installing programs that can run in Widows 11 should be able to make a bootable USB stick install of Fossapup64.

I have had good luck using Unetbootin program
Best to have the Fossapup64 9.5.iso downloaded and use it as the source for the program to use.
Unetbootin is an exe file, you download, and left click on, to run the program.

Your slow running Fossapup64, in the virtualbox, is still probably some setup that still is needed adjusted.
Maybe something about the CPU or graphics.

Go into the computers UEFI setup.
just as power is applied to computer, should be a key to press, to open the UEFI setup.
esc, F2, F12, F11, etc..... depends on the computer which one.

Look for an option to enable/disable USB booting. (may or may not have this setting)
This needs set to enable.

Look for a setting for secure boot, it needs set to disable.

Look for boot section.
Set boot device order to have the USB stick as 1st device.

Exit the UEFI setup selecting to save changes.

Now the computer should boot using the USB stick as boot device.

Computer should also have a key to press, to bring up a device list, to choose which one to boot from.
Usually a specific F-key.
Have to look up the info about the computer to see which key it is.

Thank you for your help. I disabled secure boot and my dell box successfully booted into Fossapup64 9.5 and its great my Dell Inspiron is running puppy Linux.
Its faster than loading the iso on Virtual Box.

I have one problem though. My Realtek Wireless adapter is not detected by Fossapup64 9.5. So, I am not able to
connect to the WiFi to access Internet.

How do make my Puppy Linux detect my Realtek Wireless?
Is there any hack that allows Dell Inspiron 15 3511 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz laptop with Realtek Wireless adapter
to be detected?

Fossapup64 9.5 is probably missing the driver or firmware or both.

That WIFI hardware in newer computers, is always being new hardware, and needing to have new driver and/or firmware provided.

If putting in a new fdrv.sfs does not provide what is needed.

Need to know exactly what Realtek Wireless adapter hardware it is.

Run program Pup-sysinfo->Devices ->PCI Devices->Complete or USB Devices->Complete

Find the info shown about the realtek hardware.

copy it and paste into post what it says.

I downloaded the updated driver and overwrite the existing fdrv_fossapup64_9.5.sfs on my USB drive

However, once I booted successfully into Puppy Linux, the system still cannot detect Wifi.

Is this problem unique to me, or exists in other users too?

Should I overwrite all the other *.sfs files on my USB drive? I only overwritten fdrv file.

However, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS detects my Wifi as
Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter pci (168c:0042)

Its only on Puppy Fossapup64 9.5.iso that Wifi is not detected.

Do not do anything with the other SFS files.

That is very strange that the two operating systems are not seeing the same WIFI hardware.

I assume this computer only has one WIFI device providing WIFI connections.
You do not have a USB WIFI adapter plugged into the computer?

If it is a Realtek 8821ce wireless card

Download and install this driver:

To install download to location you can find it.
Left click on it and it will install.

Reboot making sure to update the save so this driver is still installed.

Now see if you can get a WIFI connection.
