Wifi card not detected on HP Stream

So, I have an HP Stream ah117wm that I'm using with FossaPup 9.5 installed to a usb stick because the internal EMMC storage is dead. I've been using a usb wifi adapter plugged into the other usb port, which works ok, but I want to free up a port to plug a mouse in. I believe the card is Realtek RTL8822BE. Can anyone help?

@biscuit739 - Welcome! First thing, let's be sure of your wifi adaptor type. Without the usb wifi plugged in, please type the following into a terminal: lspci -nn | grep etwork
(that starts with a lowercase 'L' & has a 'pipe' symbol in the middle)
and please post the code at the end ( code format is [9x9x:9x9x] ).
That will enable us to find (or make) the correct driver.
(If it is an rtl8822be, fossapup64 driver is in forum Additional Software/Drivers section).

When I typed that, I didn't get any output. But when I just typed "lspci" i got this:

@biscuit739 - no mention of networks in that lspci output - do you have wireless turned off in pc setup (formerly known as bios)? There may be a keyboard combo to turn it on (airplane key?). This page has system specs - https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp ... l/22909877.
Is windows-centric & doesn't seem to identify specific wireless hardware.

Christ almighty. Shows just where HP's priorities really lie these days; the biggest portion of that manual seems more interested in telling you all about HP's Remote Diagnostics than just about anything else. And certainly doesn't tell you anything you actually need to know.....

@ozsouth :- They ARE very much Windows-centric. Always have been. Much of their hardware will function happily under Linux, but HP themselves will never tell you that.....you have to discover this for yourself!

@biscuit739 :- You said you typed the above grep command into the terminal. Did you try copy/pasting it instead? If I type it, it won't function for me.....but if I copy/paste it, it does what it's supposed to. Weird, huh?

@biscuit739 - from memory, immediately on booting up press F10 repeatedly - should get you into HP's bios. Then look at different screens/tabs offered. F5/F6 changes, I think. Be careful though. Problem is your network adaptor isn't showing up.

@ozsouth I've also confirmed that the card is an Realtek RTL8822BE by opening the laptop up.

@biscuit739 - we now have to consider that the adaptor may be faulty. A simple usb hub will allow you to use both a mouse & wifi adaptor. Might be your best option. As a last resort, you could try the .pet I referred to earlier. See:

In Rox file manager.
Navigate to that location.
Left click on the pet file to install the driver.

Reboot the computer.
Make sure to update the Fossapup64 save so the driver is still there to use.

Now try to connect.

It seems like your card is there, based off this: https://www.realtek.com/en/products/com ... /rtl8822be
It states it uses a USB 2.0 interface for the bluetooth controller.
As well, thanks to @bigpup I am wrong about the modules included, so you'll need to download the pet.

I'm using Barry's SNS. It literally just doesn't see my network card.

Yeah, I even tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

@biscuit739 - I always use frisbee, as I have had situations where sns didn't show an adaptor. If frisbee doesn't show it either, faulty adaptor becomes most likely reason.

Something to try.

This laptop should have an airplane button that turns wireless on/off.

Press it one time.
Wait 10 seconds.
Now check to see if you get a WIFI device detected.

If their is a FN button, that probably needs pressed + airplane button.

I think the wireless card is just dead. I've basically tried everything, and the card just doesn't seem to be there. However, I've got a question that's unrelated to this topic. Why does fossapup take so long to boot? It sits on "Waiting for USB storage..." for up to half an hour sometimes. It's pretty inconvenient.

Maybe the USB system is damaged too.

It should only wait about 5 to 10 seconds making sure USB devices have time to fully be seen.
Then it should continue to boot.

Speed of the computer determines how fast it will boot.
But usually, you should get to a working desktop in 30 sec. to a couple of minutes.

Well, maybe you need to open it up and check everything inside of the computer.
No loose connections, dirt, a loose screw laying on a connection, corrosion, any burn places on circuits, bulging or leaking capacitors, etc......
