Mirage - a small, simple Python-based GTK+ image viewer...

Post by mikewalsh »

Afternoon, gang.

After hearing mention of this by new member lonewolf, I thought I'd dig around and see what I could find. I'd never heard of it before, so - being something of a graphics nut - I wanted to take a look at it.

It's one of these with a pane on the left-hand side, showing thumbnail previews before they come up in the main viewer window.....handy if you want to quickly scroll through and locate a particular image. Similar to Shotwell, it has some basic editing functions built-in.

The app's webpage is over at Sourceforge:-

Digging around in the Ubuntu archives, I see that although it was first released all the way back in 2005, it's had development as recently as 2020.....so it HAS had regular maintenance over the years. I've selected v0.9.5.1 for this, because this is the last release built for 2-series Python (2.7); after this, it switched to 3-series Python (3.6).

While this last is fine for fairly new Puppies, older Pups only came with Python 2.7 (I don't think 3.6 was even available at the time). Some didn't have it installed at all, or had the still older 2.6 release. By publishing the last 2.7-based build, this makes it available for the greatest number of Puppians out there......given that 2.7 is
common to just about all Pups.

You can find .debs for both 32-bit AND 64-bit Mirage here:-

If anybody requires a basic Python 2.7 package, 32-bit and 64-bit versions can be found here:-

The 32-bit package is quite a bit larger than the 64-bit one.....for the simple reason that a larger number of included dependencies are needed to make it usable. :o

Enjoy.

Mike. ;)

Puppy "stuff" ~ MORE Puppy "stuff" ~ ....and MORE! :D
