Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
Jasper, there's been a lot of fairly recent posts about osmo not being able to handle contact data or crashing if you tried. BarryK posted regarding what was needed when compiling to overcome this. But AFAIK, no one has posted an application fixing it for fossapup64.

@mikeslr
Thanks for your message. I thought I was cusp of dementia.
I did not include a html renderer as I could not compile webkit(?). The Contacts option is not available.
I was not aware that there was a previous discussion regarding this.

Fossapup added Help files
These help files reflect the files in the "Getting Started and System Requirements" section of the forum, plus a few unpublished documents. Some editing was necessary to account for being embedded in Fossa. After installing, when you click the Menu you'll find a Help2 item that will open Rox into the Help2 directory containing all the documents in .doc file format. Just click one and it will open in Abiword.

There are two different fixes for that issue viewtopic.php?t=5966
1. 666philb created a fix (preferred way to fix it)
2. I also posted a recompiled libgtkhtml-2.12-patched-fossapup64.pet that fixes that, on page 2 of that thread (did that before I realized 666philb had the fix posted)

Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
Thank you for you hard work. It is very much appreciated.
Any plan to update CloneZilla?
Thanks again, Jasp!
Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
I do not know if it is possible to update all the component parts of Clonezilla without breaking it.
I grabbed the source files via PPM.
Just looking at their website I can only see that there have been kernel updates mostly.
Am I missing something?

Fossapup64 Markdown Viewer
"Markdown is a lightweight markup language that you can use to add formatting elements to plaintext text documents. Created by John Gruber in 2004, Markdown is now one of the world’s most popular markup languages."
If desired, markdown can be converted to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML) that can be opened in a web browser.
Fossapup64 has a simple markdown viewer (mdview) installed. Files with the .md extension are markdown files. To view a markdown file, navigate to the file with Rox file manager and click it. It will open in mdview.
To learn more about markdown files, visit this website:
To my knowledge mdview is not it any of the Puppy menus and I have never seen reference to it on the forum.
The attached .pet file will add an item to the Document menu that just opens mdview and explains the above.

Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
For some reason, CZ installed from PPM can't perform "image-device."
I also attempted to install the newer debs but was unsuccessful.
Thanks, Jasp!
Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
Sonny, I have limited experience with cloning/backup applications.
Personally, I have used Acronis True Image and that has always worked for me and is incredibly simple to use.
When I have used this software, like Clonezilla it has been outside of the installed OS ie booting up a CD/USB drive to launch the application.
I would not have tried to launch Clonezilla from within a working OS.
Let me look at it, maybe extract the files from the LiveCD could be made into a SFS.
No promises!!

mdview is included in the Bionic series I think. For GitHub I started using several different markdown editors on Fossapup64's to find the right one. Having at least mdview onboard is a real plus and I will make sure that it is in the next releases of F96-CE.

Rock, mdview is already installed in F96. If you install the .pet I posted, it just creates a menu item for it in the Document menu. Also, Rox already has .md files associated with mdview.

Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
I have compiled this already and it is fairly easy to do so.
The only issue is that it complains that it will not run via "root"
Hopefully someone can resolve this minor issue.

Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
Compile VLC with --enable-run-as-root included in your configure options
Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
Thanks Jasper, installed v3.0.18 on top of v3.0.11 and my desktop link can launch vlc.
I see some vlc files dropped to my /root/Downloads folder, I don't think they should be there, maybe that's why there are errors in terminal.

Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
Can you try the repacked pet file that I have just updated in the original post?
I downloaded from the above link and installed it on FP96 (F96_4-CE) by clicking on the package in a Rox window and it works and launches from the menu.
Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages
After uninstalling previous vlc /root/Downloads folder was deleted, this is not good for ppl who keep files in downloads folder. Repacked pet is better no files dropped to my /root/Downloads folder.

@Jasper :-
I have to go with Oscar's suggestion. Much the easiest route to take for us.
Why should a single-user, hobbyist distro designed for a single individual to be able to do everything they want, have to jump through hoops to accommodate the restricted-permission, multi-user model.......just because it's considered the "standard"?
Linux is flexible enough to be able to do this when required. You try getting Microsoft to make "exceptions" for small groups of "special-use" individuals. Good luck with that; on their scale of deployment, I doubt they could scale down far enough!
