I like Rox's Iconified Windows

I'm going to sheepishly admit here, that after all these 15 or so years of using Rox and JWM, I only now decided to try the 'iconified windows' option in Rox

I like it!

Well, I'm in KLV at the moment, which is Xfce and doesn't seem to have this option working (I tried it), but all it does is place an icon on the desktop when you minimize a window, so that instead of clicking on the taskbar or using keystrokes to open it back up, you simply click on the icon. You can still use all the other methods like the taskbar, it just adds this addtional icon to the desktop.

I didn't really need to use it, but I got curious and tried it. It's easy to have a lot of windows open and move back and forth between them. Once I boot back into a JWM desktop I'll take a screen shot.

Xfce has a similar option. It rolls the window up into just a title bar, which takes a lot more real estate. It looks like this:

Well the above was KLV w/Xfce, so here's one on my jackalpup install using jwm. Iconified Rox, Xfe, and LibreWolf windows....

Is this the default behaviour?

The only reason I ask as it would interfere with Conky or Pwidgets if installed.

The options in Rox have Top-right, Top-left, Bottom-right, Bottom-left
It also has Vertical or Horizontal options.
It even has options for Top, Bottom, Left, Right margins!

I can see this being useful for desktops without taskbars.

There is an option in Rox to choose where to put the icons, the ones on the left on my desktop are drive icons. I have conky all set up but don't use it much these days. I always have a terminal window open and I'll often run htop or btop.

Yes. This feature is useful when Rox is acting as the desktop with a very basic window manager. More so than JWM.

When making KLV-Boxer which is a KLV using a JWM + Rox desktop, the icon's are enabled by default during the build in the Rox options which I disable manually later to use the JWM tray instead.

It is JWM, or whatever window manager you are using,

Really, it is worth while to start X with no WM just to see what it does.

Kill X by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace
restart X by typing xwin urxvt

This starts X with no WM.
(actually urxvt is acting as the WM but it does nothing that a WM would do)

You can run programs by typing in the urxvt terminal window.
You can stop many programs that were started in the terminal by typing ctrl+C in the terminal.

You can start a WM by typing jwm in the terminal.

Typing an ampersand character & at the end of the line runs the program in the back ground, so you can still type in the urxvt window.

The WM (like jwm) creates the menu, the title bar, the maximize/minimize/close buttons, and allows you to move and resize and minimize and maximize windows.

You can get jwm back by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace (or exit the terminal window)
then typing xwin jwm

You can see what rox does by typing in a terminal
killall ROX-Filer

Rox creates desktop wallpaper (pinboard) and the clickable icons on the desktop

You can get the desktop (pinboard) back again by typing
rox -p /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin
