Changing filename color in ROX

Post by Zedward »

I want to use dark theme to prevent battery drain, but black filenames on dark background in ROX' windows are unreadable.
I exprimented with color values in theme's files, but with no result.
Where JWM save numbers of filename colors?

lLaptop screens are usually LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)

Most of the power used by the screen is the backlight.
A bright screen uses less power than a dark screen.

For each pixel the lcd display can let more or less light of the backlight. through the pixel.
Making a pixel dark might use less power then a bright pixel.
Or a dark pixdel may use more power than a bright pixel.

In either case the backlight uses most of the battery power that the screen uses.

A dark theme may use more battery poiwer than a light theme.
A light theme may use more battery poiwer than a dark theme.

Nowhere. JWM doesn't care.

Rightclick any desktop icon, then click

ROX-Filer > Options > Pinboard
In Appearance section change the Foreground color. This will affect the text colors for desktop icons.

For changing the colors of filenames in a ROX-Filer window, still with Options dialog open, click Colours
Change the "File type colour" for Regular files and probably also Directories.

BTW: "Additional software" is the wrong forum for your question. IMO should go into the Users forum

@MochiMoppel is right about JWM, however, gtk will change the background color for rox, then the text colors are all changed in Rox Options colours. You can change all of the text for various filetypes.

I save my /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/Options file under different names, like Options-blue, Options-orange, etc. then when changing color schemes I copy one of the saved files to Options. Restart xwin to see the changes take effect.

I've gone a step further. I used the right-click-menu>File>Set-Icon dialog to create an entire set of high contrast MIME-icons which are stored in the folder /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/MIME-icons. I copy the folder from puppy to puppy along with the file /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/globicons to use high contrast dark themes.

My Rox looks like this:
